I took a walk up the Lobos Creek valley this afternoon; the mosaic of different shades of muted greens and the lavender of the lupine blossoms was lovely. There are lots of wild strawberries flowering and the azure blossoms of the ceanothus bushes attracted lots of native bees. So Merlin Stone has passed. Her book _When God Was a Woman_ made a great impact on me back in the early 80's along with Daly's _Beyond God the Father_ and Gimbutas' _Goddesses and Gods of Old Europe_. It seemed auspicious that Merlin was a woman. Some of the history was problematic but Stone's work was so important. I gave my mother a copy as a ( Read more... )
