A dear friend and I went for a day hike in Denali yesterday, mostly to get stock photos for his library and for a project he is working on. As we were almost to the park, about 9am, we pulled over on the Parks Highway and I got this shot.........

Went on a road trip last weekend and came across the Skookum Volcano about 38 miles into the Wrangle Mountains in Wrangle St. Elias National Park. I'll post pictures of our hike up to vertical face of this long extinct volcano when I have edited them, but this was the shot taken standing at our campsite.

This is a wild and beautiful place about 70 miles from Fairbanks. One of my favorite day trips. About 3 years ago this whole area (250,000+ acres) was burned, part of 6.5 million acres that burned that year here in the Interior of Alaska. and across the street was this young man on the roof of the Visitors Center here in Fairbanks, watering the sod roof. I just had to go get my camera and shot this out of my office window. I don't know of another city in North America whose visitor center has a roof that needs to be watered and mowed!

It was Nicole's 18th birthday yesterday, my youngest step daughter. She was so excited to have everyone out for the afternoon to celebrate with her! She will be a high school senior in the fall.

I was downloading some pictures from family camping weekend and my grandson's 3rd birthday. Found a couple that I thought I'd share with my LJ friends. We camped in the state park on the way to Chena Hot Springs about 40 miles from Fairbanks, and the birthday party was at Alaskaland aka Pioneer Park to the touristas.
