Sixth Moment: Kiss

“About that kiss, Massu”, Koyama started and turned to him.

Masuda jumped a little, his eyes automatically at Tegoshi who was across from him in the room, annoying Shige with questions for university. He quickly looked away again, trying to fix Koyama. “Ki-kiss?”

Koyama nodded. “Kiss scenes.”

Masuda frowned at him. “Ah…”

“And?”, the older one asked then.

“And what?”

Koyama sighed. “Earth to Masuda! We were just talking about those. Yamapi has one for his next drama. Didn’t you do it, too, already?”

Masuda titled his head, thinking. “No, I was in the drama, too, but it was Tegoshi.”

Ryo next to him started to laugh and Tegoshi joined in.

“What kind of conversation is this?”

“I feel a little nervous about it.”, Yamashita answered.

“It’s not your first time, though, is it?”, Tegoshi said. “It was my first back then and I was super nervous.”

“You were cute in that drama, Tegorin”, Koyama pointed out. “Did you practice beforehand?”

Tegoshi laughed again. “I was cute; and of course I didn’t. I’ve called Shige afterwards.”

“Eh?” Masuda threw him a surprised look. “We’ve been together in that drama, why didn’t you just talk to me?”

Tegoshi shrugged his shoulders. Of course there was just one reason; the simple one that he hadn’t wanted Masuda to know that Tegoshi was that unconfident of himself.

“Because no one would ask you for advice when it comes to kisses. Well, except for Koyama, since he just asked you.” Shige frowned.

“Why that?” Masuda seemed seriously confused.

“You don’t look like you’d have many experiences with girls, Masuda.”

Ryo reached out a hand and gently poked Masuda’s face with a finger. “Because of your baby face.”

“I don’t have a baby face!”

“Oh, you do have”, Shige joined their conversation.

“Cute, chubby cheeks.” Koyama chirped and ruffled Masuda’s head. “Cute, chubby body.”

Masuda mumbled, but didn’t stand up for himself. “I’m not chubby.”

Now Ryo poked the younger one’s side, his bag already packed and over one shoulder. “Just a bit, ne.”

Obviously not improving of this, Masuda turned to him. “What do you mean?”

Tegoshi titled his head and frowned at the conversation. Kato and Ryo were teasing Masuda now, making fun of his cheeks and his body. He was aware of that they didn’t know, because it wasn’t that visible, but Masuda wasn’t that chubby. Of course, he had that round face, those cheeks, but Tegoshi could remember quite well, how strong his muscles were, how muscular and even hard Masuda’s body had felt, whenever Tegoshi had lain in his embrace.

“He actually feels more muscular than chubby”, he said out loud, out of the blue into their conversation, and it got quiet for a moment.

Ryo frowned. “Feels what?”

Masuda looked at him; blushed.

“I mean”, Tegoshi added now, noticing his mistake. “I feel like he’s lost some weight. It looks like that.”

Shaking his head, Kato turned to pick up his things. “Whatever.”

With a smile, Yamashita got up, too, to leave first. “Don’t let them tease you, Masuda-kun. You’re okay the way you are.”

Kato, Ryo and Yamashita left and Tegoshi looked after them with a pouting face.

“You don’t have to defend me, Tegoshi”, Masuda murmured and turned to his spint.

“Don’t take it serious, Tegoshi.” Koyama took his things and smiled at him. “They’re just making fun.”

Tegoshi nodded to avoid a conversation about it. That could have gotten quite long; when Koyama just started.

He left, too, and Tegoshi zipped his own bag closed, sitting down next to it; still pouting.

He loved Masuda, hadn’t he made that obvious? Okay, he hadn’t said so out loud, but he would not have kissed the older boy if he wouldn’t have those feelings for him, would he?

Why was Masuda so cold to him when Tegoshi tried to defend him, when he was at his side, protected him from mean words?

He really didn’t get it.

Unsure, what to say Masuda just packed his things, too, turned to Tegoshi then, ready to leave.

It had been a little awkward between them first. After Valentine’s Day they hadn’t quite known how to handle the situation.

They had spent that evening in Masuda’s bed and somehow everything had been just as usual, they had been lying close, Tegoshi curled up against Masuda, only that they both hadn’t been able to go to sleep. Occasionally, they had looked at each other, lips meeting again and again in gentle kisses.

The next morning, they hadn’t talked about it, they had had breakfast, had gone to work together, but everything had been back to normal.

But the way they both were, they didn’t know where to go next. Of course, they couldn’t let anyone know, but also, they didn’t want to go back to how it’s used to be between them. Even so, they didn’t know if it was even appropriate to secretly have a relationship.

So, things between them had gone back to normal, since it was the only situation they could handle. It’s been almost two weeks now; their new single was going to be released soon, so they had quite a lot of promotional work, what didn’t leave them much time thinking about their relationship.

Even so, Masuda had the feeling that was about everything he thought of whenever he got his mind free.

Walking in silence now, they made their way out of the building and to the train station. As usual, they were walking together. Tegoshi’s train would come first, a few minutes later, Masuda’s. As they reached the platform, they stood next to each other, as usual, when Tegoshi suddenly turned. “Ne, Massu…”

Masuda looked at him. “Hm?”

“I…” Tegoshi blushed and faced the other direction, seeing his train coming in. “I just wanted to say that… I…” What else he said was drowned by the sound of the stopping train.

Masuda stared at him, frowned. As it got quiet again, he asked: “What did you say? I couldn’t hear it.”

Tegoshi shook his head. “No, it’s okay. See you tomorrow then.”

Masuda nodded and waved him off.

He sighed as the train was out of sight and next, his came in. He got in and sat down, staring out of a window. It was quite frustrating.

He really loved Tegoshi, he wanted to kiss him again, but in a way he couldn’t handle his feelings.

Tegoshi had said he was in love with him, too, but he never made anything to let Masuda see or feel it. What if Tegoshi just mistook his feelings? After all, they had been special for each other for a long time; something more than good friends, but something less than lovers.

What if Tegoshi had realised after kissing Masuda once, that he didn’t really love him; that he couldn’t be with another boy?

And now he was afraid to tell Masuda, because they were friends, Tegoshi liked him, didn’t want to hurt him.

Sighing again, he titled his head back and closed his eyes.

He had just gotten what he had always wanted, but Masuda was just unable to hold it. He didn’t want to let Tegoshi ever go again, but he wasn’t the type to convey his feelings and be clear about them.

And if he’d act like this for any longer, he would definitely lose Tegoshi again.

Nothing had changed just a few days later. Things were still the same; Masuda was still too clueless to make a step. He didn’t know how to interpret Tegoshi’s actions.

They were backstage in one of the huge TV buildings right now and looking for the bathroom, Masuda had somehow gotten lost. He wasn’t quite sure which studio he had to go to, in which they would record the next TV show.

Sighing, he opened a door and peeked into the room, because it looked similar to the one he had come from. But it was empty. It actually seemed, every room here was empty.

As he just thought about calling Koyama and asking him where to go, someone gripped his wrist and pulled him backwards into the room he had just peeked into.

The next thing he knew was a soft body pressed to his, the scent of fresh shampoo near his nose, the feeling of gentle hands holding his back.

“Tegoshi”, he yelped quietly, but returned the embrace just as passionately. “What’s wrong?”

“Massu, Massu!” Tegoshi started to bump up and down in Masuda’s arms, forcing him to move along. “Massu, I’m so happy!”

Masuda pulled away for a bit, looking at Tegoshi. He was beaming, in point of fact; cheeks slightly red and his eyes sparkling. “What happened?”

Tegoshi grinned at him and in the next moment he had put a loud kiss to Masuda’s lips, before he turned and made a spin. “We’re going to release a new single.”

Laughing, the older boy sat down at a chair; he recognized the room as a meeting room. “Well, yes, that’s why we’re here, Tegoshi.”

“No, no, Massu!” The brunette came over to him and took his hand. “Not as News; I mean, sure, we will, it’s all settled. But as Tegomasu, too!”

Masuda stared at him. “Are you serious?”

“Absolutely. I was looking for you when you didn’t come back and heard some of the managers talking about it as they passed by. In May, we’re releasing a single in May.”

“I thought we were just temporary?”

Tegoshi’s smile faded. “You’re not happy.”

Masuda turned his head to him and tightened the grip of his hand. “Of course I am; only surprised.”

They looked at each other for a moment, before they both turned their heads. But neither of them pulled their hands away.

Masuda was about to say something as both their mobiles started ringing. They both looked at the displays and Tegoshi sat down next to Masuda, sighing. “Koyama.”

Masuda nodded. “Shige-kun.”

“Can’t they just leave us a little peace?”

With a smile, Masuda squeezed his hand and then picked up. “I’ll be back in a minute, Shige.”

“Is Tegoshi with you, by any chance? He didn’t say where he’d go.”

“Yeah, don’t worry. He’s with me.”

“Hurry up; we need to be in the studio in ten minutes.”

Masuda hung up and looked at Tegoshi, whose mobile had stopped ringing. “Sorry.”

Shaking his head, the younger one leaned in, but before he could perform any action, Masuda pulled him close, hugged him tightly.

“Massu?”

The dark-haired shook his head. “I’ve wanted to hold you like this again. We didn’t have much time, huh?”

Tegoshi nodded and lifted his free hand to Masuda’s back, his other one still holding on to Masuda’s. “We have some time now.” He pulled back a bit and traced gentle kisses over the skin of Masuda’s jaw.

The older boy gently pushed him away, a smile on his lips. “We have to go back to the studio.” He stood up and pulled Tegoshi with him, holding his hand, until he opened the door, where he dropped it.

Tegoshi followed him with a pout on his lips.

Masuda had confessed first, but now he was always pulling away when Tegoshi tried to get close to him.

What was wrong? Didn’t he want Tegoshi anymore?

As they reached the room, the others told them that they had postponed the recordings of the show for fifteen minutes due to some technical problems.

Tegoshi threw Masuda a look, before he turned and sat down next to Koyama. Masuda stayed at the other side of the room, trying not to feel guilty or even hurt.

He wanted to explain Tegoshi that he was only afraid of not being good enough for him, but that was hard to do.

As it seemed he had put Tegoshi in a really bad mood, rejecting him like that, because as Koyama didn’t look the youngest one was pouring some of his apple juice into the redhead’s coffee.

“Tegoshi-kun? Masuda-kun?” A staff member peeked into their changing room, as they were finished with rehearsals the other day. “Can you guys stay for a little longer today?”

The others were looking as them, as they nodded and the AD closed the door again.

“What did you guys do?” Shige frowned.

“Tegoshi’s not catching up with the choreography. Masuda will have to give him some extra training”, Ryo joked.

Tegoshi threw him a glare and the older one fell silent.

Before he could say anything, though, Masuda spoke up. “Who knows. We’ll tell you when we know what it’s about.”

Tegoshi just looked at him, but didn’t say a word. He got changed and waited for Masuda then.

On their way to the meeting room, Masuda took his chance to grab Tegoshi’s hand. “Don’t be mad.”

Tegoshi sighed. “You’re not making it easy for me, Massu.”

“I didn’t want to tell them we already knew.”

“I don’t mean that.”

“You mean me avoiding you.”

Tegoshi stopped and looked at Masuda now. “What’s wrong, Massu? What did I do?”

“Let’s not talk about that now”, Masuda said and went on.

But Tegoshi held on to his hand and pulled him back. “It’s always not now. When’s the best time then?”

“When we’re alone, Tegoshi, and I don’t have to be afraid we get caught any second.”

“No one’s here now; no one was in that room the other day.” Tegoshi looked at him with desperate eyes. “You’re avoiding kissing me on purpose. You don’t want to kiss me again.”

Masuda’s eyes widened in shock. Tegoshi had gotten the whole situation wrong. “Tegoshi…”

“Say Yuya again”, the brunette interrupted him. “Don’t be so formal with me.”

“I’m not formal with you; I’m just used to call you that”, Masuda defended himself.

“I liked how you called my name. I liked how you kissed me; but apparently I did something wrong, because you wouldn’t do it again.”

“That’s not true, you know how much…”

“Masuda-kun, Tegoshi-kun, why are you not coming? We’re waiting for you!” A staff member looked at them from the door frame to the meeting room.

“Why is everyone interrupting me?”, Masuda growled silently. “See, that’s what I meant. We’re not alone here. It’s not the place to discuss these things.”

Tegoshi’s expression darkened, before he turned. “Now, I am really mad at you.”

Masuda only sighed, followed his partner then and wondered why he was like this. He really liked Tegoshi, but his fears made it difficult for him to show his love.

Tegoshi had gotten it all wrong.

He closed the door behind him and sat down next to Tegoshi, casually touching his shoulder as he did so. Tegoshi shrugged his hand off with a cold glare.

“We’re planning to let you two be the supporters for the Volleyball Cup this year”, one of the managers started to explain to them. “You did a good job with your first single; we want to continue that success.”

They got further details explained and plans for the summer were discussed. Tegoshi seemed all excited about it and Masuda couldn’t help the affectionate smile spreading across his features.

After the first details were set, they got some papers handed. “You’ll have extra vocal training from next week on. Additional to the new News songs you two will have to practice the ones for your new single.”

Masuda nodded and looked at the paper, seeing lots of notes first; then he noticed the title and his head flew up automatically to look at Tegoshi.

The younger one was still discussing something, completely neglecting his sheets, but as the managers lifted from their chairs, he threw a short glance at them.

Masuda noticed the moment Tegoshi saw the title. He blushed, shortly glanced at Masuda, before he turned to get up and bow to the people leaving the room.

As they were alone again, they both sat in silence for a moment, then Masuda spoke up first: “Don’t get me wrong, but I think this is quite ironical.”

Tegoshi snorted slightly. “Just a bit.”

“Kiss”, Masuda read and looked at the younger boy. “It’s probably…”

“What, Massu? A sign? Don’t be stupid, we already…”

“Don’t always interrupt me, Tegoshi.”

The brunette fell back into his chair and sighed. “Oh yeah, I probably just let you talk on nonsense for forever. Go ahead.”

As Masuda just stood up and walked in direction of the door, Tegoshi gaped. He hadn’t meant to make Masuda leave. He wanted to make out and get back to that point where they had both acknowledged they loved each other. Why was Masuda struggling against it so much? “Wait, don’t…”

Masuda opened the door and stepped out for a moment, then he came back in and closed the door; locked it. Turning, he caught Tegoshi’s look and smiled. “You didn’t think I was leaving, did you?”

Tegoshi just looked at him, waited what he’d do next.

“You know, it’s not like I didn’t want to kiss you again, Tegoshi.” He ignored Tegoshi’s wincing at that name. “I just wasn’t sure it was right.”

“You said you loved me, right?”

“I do. I did love you for quite a while.”

Tegoshi bit his lip. “Then don’t push me away now.”

“I’m not pushing you away”, Masuda said and walked slowly over to him. “I’m trying to be careful.”

As he stood in front of Tegoshi, looked down on him, the younger one titled his head back to look into Masuda’s eyes. “Be daring once. You’ve locked the door.”

Masuda smiled gently, before he leaned in and pressed his lips to Tegoshi’s. It lasted for a while, before Masuda got down to the chair next to Tegoshi’s and the younger one could nuzzle against him.

“Okay, you were probably right and it was a sign…”, Tegoshi murmured against Masuda’s lips, running his hands through the strands of dark brunette.

Masuda snickered slightly into their kiss. “It’s what Tegomasu is about.”

“Kissing?”

“Recently, that’s what always comes to my mind when I think of what we could do.”

“We should try that on stage”, Tegoshi joked.

Masuda leaned back and framed Tegoshi’s face, placing another kiss to his lips. The younger one had almost crouched into his lap and was clinging to Masuda’s neck.

He didn’t even want to think about that he had to pretend he only liked Tegoshi as a friend, as soon as they would leave this room again.

“We’ll have to be really careful.”

Tegoshi nodded, then he leaned in again and gently kissed Masuda. “We’ll be. No one will find out.”

Masuda opened his eyes once more, looked into Tegoshi’s. “I love you, Yuya.”

The younger boy smiled and he nuzzled even closer. “Don’t unlock that door too soon, Massu. Let’s stay here for a little longer.”

Masuda nodded. Here, he thought, behind locked doors, out of everyone’s view.

Where they could be lovers.

Thanks for keeping up with me ♥ I know this took a little longer, but I had to figure out which ideas I would use for this one and which for Open Door. So, I changed some parts over and over again. I hope it's still okay ^^
