At one level, I feel really shallow and pathetic writing about something this inconsequential.  I mean the differences between what happened to an innocuous gray and white cat in rural Missouri when compared to the shootings at VA Tech yesterday or the equivalent daily death and destruction in Iraq are, well, massive.

Around 1am or so on 28 Jan, I was lying awake in bed and heard a howl at the top of the stairs just outside our bedroom door. On 26 March, easter weekend, one of our cats died, Janey. Losing any of our cats is hard but Janey's been the hardest. Everybody has a once in a lifetime pet and Janey was mine. Here it is over a month later and I'm still crying about her. We were having band practice that weekend so didn't pick up her body until Sunday, then fell apart. Here' ( Read more... )

Living here thru the 4th is like living thru a mortar barrage in Beruit in the 80s or present day Iraq. I dunno where the natives get their artillery but now, any half-wit, inbred, drunker-than-Foster-Brooks local can purchase stuff that several years ago, was only available to professional types with a license. Weeeeeeee, I have more friends in here than I do within a 90 mile radiius of my house. Four friends, all GVA alumni and some of whom still talk to each other on occasion.

I now have one friend. I should pop in here more often.

After incessant nagging, I'm on. Now if I only had something to say. Dammit, people will now discover the empty, shallow person I am.
