Sigur Rós was amazing last night. Best concert I’ve been to in ten years. The ending of “Hafsól” was so intense Jónsi broke his bow. It was an overcast but dry night… until “Popplagið” kicked into overdrive, and then it started raining hard enough that I was soaked by the end of the song. Sigur Rós made it rain.

Is there a good reason why the phrases “Federal National Mortgage Association” and “Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation” are absent from most media reports about yesterday’s takeover of those GSEs? (e.g. nytimes, wapo, latimes.)

Ad revenue keeps the lights on at Google, so it’s no surprise their new browser lacks an ad-blocker. But in 2008, missing that feature in a web browser is like forgetting to include a Back button. I didn’t even realize there were obnoxious banners in the TPM feed until I tried Chrome!

Edit: This is great, though.

For those Americans interested in watching the major-party conventions on television this week and next, do yourself a favor and tune in to C-Span, rather than one of the cable news channels or major broadcast networks. This Matt Yglesias post on profanity euphemisms reminds me that the dull “sexy vampires as allegory for marginalized minority group” premise isn’t the only reason I’m avoiding that new Alan Ball show on HBO.
