De-stinkify

Jan 20, 2014 17:47

I left some milky coffee in my good Contigo stainless travel mug and now the (plastic) top smells like sour smoke.

I've run it through the dishwasher and let it sit to air out, but no luck.

Is there anyway to de-stink this so I can use it again??

a denture cleaning tablet might work, but don't let it touch metal, soak the plastic in the water the tablet is dissolved in.

Why no metal? Is the metal different? I use denture soak to clean my retainer just fine.

I would guess that the brand you use to clean your retainer would be fine to clean the lid, then.

You might also try baking soda, although not sure if dry or a wet mix would be best.

Yes, baking soda is awesome for this. I don't drink coffee, and my roommate left old coffee (milky too) in one of my all-plastic travel mugs. Took awhile, but I got the smell out through baking soda soaks.

Soak the plastic lid in warm water and vinegar, then let it dry out really well. Then after a good wash if it still stinks do the baking soda soak.

I finally gave up and threw mine away. :( I miss it but I could never get it completely clean.
