Katoomba is a reasonably sizable town two hours' train journey west from Sydney, up the Blue Mountains. It is essentially a satellite suburb for Sydney and famous for its mist-shrouded mornings and proximity to fun combinations of rocks, cliffs and forest. I didn't trust a plane to be running sufficiently on time that a flight scheduled to arrive at 7am would meet check in deadlines for a flight leaving at 9am. But I just realised my next flight no longer leaves at 9am, so I could actually have made it a same-day jobby. Oh well. Hey Aucklanders...?
