Feeling better today after a lousy week-end of stomach upset. I had THREE events on Saturday: bat mitzvah in the morning, party at the ever-lovely mirabile_dictu's in the afternoon, and a party at my daughter's stable in the evening! Each one was more beautifully catered than the last, but I couldn't eat anything or drink alchohol. It was so frustrating. ( Read more... )

I'm having such a crisis of faith right now. Actually, it's not a crisis of faith, because I'm a fairly hardened atheist, but I've always nevertheless had a part of my brain that demanded spiritual care and feeding, and I find that it is no longer being fed by my synagogue. It's a group of 12 suburban stay-at-home moms, and I am going to try hard to fit in and not talk all intellektchul and not be overwhelmed by my viciously competitive streak. We got Beedle the Bard in the mail yesterday, having pre-ordered it from Amazon. Even the cardboard book-packing had a "Beedle" theme. It's a lovely book, very nice production values. Poor Geoff got up at 3:30 a.m. yesterday to fly to Billings. His connecting flight in Seattle was cancelled so they issued him a new ticket for a different flight with a 4-hour delay. When he finally went to board, they discovered that the ticket he had been issued was for Friday. They ended up letting him on the plane anyway as a standby passenger ( Read more... )
