Miniature and some detail work from Valerian and Rowena's Fealty Scroll, during their reign as Lochac's 4th Prince and Princess,AS 23. 2nd attempt at period portraiture.
I'm very fond of the piece of work - despite its many problems. It was my first completed illumination and my first (decidedly flawed) attempt at period style portraiture.
I don't remember much about this little pen & ink drawing, although I recognise an attempt to force my own illustration style into something more period - so a tentative attempt at 16th century pen & ink.
This is my favourite large piece of work, and is a joint project with Viscount Valerian, who made the beautiful shield itself, and is also responsible for the idea, this photo and general encouragement

Miniatures were very popular in the English court with some the most famous artists being Hans Holbein (in the early portion of the 16th c), Nicholas Hilliard and Isaac Oliver (in the later 16th c). My journal name probably gives away my admiration for these artists
