Summary: The storyline starts from when the original Hey!Say!7 guest-starred on Shounen Club and moves on from there. It’s a Takaki-centric fic that follows him from the previously mentioned point on as he experiences the pros and cons of being one of the oldest members of the then-newly-formed Hey!Say!JUMP and his interactions with his new bandmates, particularly one Yabu Kota.

 He was pissed.

He didn’t quite know why.

But Takaki knew he was pissed.

He didn’t have anything to be mad about, really. Inoo was starting to smile again. Daiki was starting to laugh. Yuto was a goof again. Yama-chan was back to being the ‘sexy dancer’. Ryuutaro and Keito were getting to be pretty tight, especially after the English boy protected the older Morimoto brother from a certain little sibling (‘Keito, HIDE ME!’ ‘Eh?’).

But then there was him.

Yaotome Hikaru.

Why he had to be everywhere Yabu was, Takaki would never understand. But there it was again. Whether it was speaking on behalf of JUMP or singing a duet together or simply going out for some yakisoba after practice, Hikaru and Yabu were suddenly inseparable. Again.

And everyone couldn’t get enough of it. JUMP welcomed its Ya-ya-yah members warmly. The juniors beamed, glad to know that at least the Hikabu part of their lives wasn’t going to change. And Johnny sat back in his office, letting the Yabu-Hikaru-Yuto leader trio take the reins for a bit.

Everything was going okay for once.

Takaki hated it.

Because Hikaru still hated him. Hikaru, who acted like a goof to everyone, who was both a brother and something so much more to Yabu, who was the one person who could throw the truth in Takaki’s face and make him see himself for what he really was. Hikaru, who had made him more terrified of himself than ever before. Hikaru, who had Yabu wrapped around his finger once again. Who was still watching Takaki with those hawk-like brown eyes.

Takaki didn’t know who could feel the edge besides the two of them. 7 didn’t. They were too busy learning the dance steps, playing pranks on the sempai, and just acting like kids. The juniors didn’t. They were too busy waging a silent war on Keito, the newbie who got into the ranks of the debuted just because of ‘his father’.

Even Yabu didn’t. He was too busy…being Yabu. Being everywhere at once, all with that same happy-face-sad-eyes expression plastered on.

But then, Takaki had learned not to underestimate Yabu. That boy always knew more than anyone else.
In the back of his head, he supposed Daiki and Inoo might have noticed. After all, with Hasshi and Kamei off on the side, those two were the two people who knew him better than anyone. And they knew Hikaru too, Inoo having been in KITY with him and Daiki being in the same school.

Yeah, they had to have noticed.

But he couldn’t stop this silent war. He couldn’t end this, even for Daiki, even for Inoo, even for JUMP. Even for Yabu.

Because this was for Yabu. This was for the boy who meant so much to so many people and didn’t even seem to realize it.

More and more, though, Takaki was beginning to wonder if Yabu would ever wake up and see it.

Whether he’ll ever wake up and see me.

He supposed, in the end, it wasn’t that surprising that he snapped.

It was just before the November Shokura taping. Everything was going right for once, something that NEVER happened before a shokura taping. No one was drowning in a brightly colored, overly frilly costume. No one was locked in a bathroom. No one was missing a mike. Everything was perfect for once.

So it was almost his civil duty, his and Hikaru’s, to make things crash.

“Why?” Takaki screamed, his fist slamming into Hikaru’s face one more time. “Why, Hikaru, why?”

“Why what, you moron?” Hikaru hissed, ducking another blow.

Why did you have to say it? Why do you have to see right through me? Why do you have to take Yabu away?

Suddenly, the floor was under him and Hikaru was above, sending punch after punch his way. “He was never yours to take away, you idiot!”

Just like that, Daiki was there, dragging Hikaru away while Inoo wrapped his arms around him and pulled him up.

“It doesn’t mean he’s yours solely, Hikaru,” Takaki spat. “He’s not just Ya-ya-yah’s anymore. We need him too. JUMP needs him. Johnny’s needs him.”

“And you need him. You’re just too pathetic to maybe start thinking about what he needs for once?”

“And that is?”

“For someone to look after him for once! Don’t you get it? He’s so busy trying to take care of everyone else, no one’s trying to take care of him!”

He froze.

Shit.

Once again, the goofball was right.

“Alright, everyone, break time’s over!”

He looked up. Koyama was in the doorway, gesturing gently to the random sea of juniors watching the showdown in the BEST room.. When did everyone get here?

More importantly, Takaki thought, his eyes trained on one boy in particular. When did Yabu get here?

Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Hikaru tense up as Daiki and Inoo’s arms loosened around them. Busted.

“Okay, okay, guys, we have to get going,” Koyama said cheerily, slowly managing to pry the juniors away from the room. “We have a big show today! It’s the shokura debut for Hey!Say!JUMP!”

Shit.

He had been so busy with his problems with Hikaru, he had totally forgotten about Yabu.

Everyone’s always forgetting about Yabu though,
a nasty little voice whispered in his ear. Especially you.

Takaki started towards the older boy, only to pulled back by Inoo. “Yabu, I-”

“Shut up, Takaki,” Hikaru hissed, finally breaking away from Daiki. “Just shut up.”

Stomping to the door, the younger Ya-ya-yah member only paused to throw a furtive glance and a murmured “sorry, Kota” Yabu’s way. Then he was gone.

Sighing, Takaki turned to the other two BEST members. “Dai-chan…Inoo-chan…”

The two stole a quick glance at Takaki, then at each other. And wordlessly ran after Hikaru.

Takaki felt a pair of strong arms wrap around him, preventing him from taking what seemed like an inevitable fall. “Yab-”

“Yabuchii, do you mind if I borrow Takaki for a second?” Koyama asked, smiling softly. “There’s a technicality with his dance parts in UMP that the choreographer wanted me to go over with him before the show.”

“There really isn’t any technicalities,” Koyama whispered later, his arm wrapped tightly around Takaki’s shoulders. “I think you guys just need a bit of fresh air before the show, ne?”

Takaki only nodded numbly. He couldn’t begin to thank Koyama, not yet. Not after hearing Hikaru tell him the truth yet again. Not after seeing Daiki and Inoo run away from him for the first time. Not after seeing Yabu that final time as Koyama lead him away, after watching the older boy’s shoulders slump just a little more just before perking up once more and beginning his normal ‘snack time before performance’ routine.

Takaki couldn’t do anything anymore, not after watching Yabu break just a little bit more. Not after realizing that this time, it was all his fault.

A/N: Hey! I'm back, and I had to have my darling muse put this up for me (HI!) so thank her! And wait for my notes! And rejoice, for the Rie-chan has returned!

Muse's Notes: HI! Kiyumi here! Rie-chan had to go, so she asked me to post this for her, so be sure to say "thank you for not making use wait another day after that month we already had to wait" :P (I'm joking, she had school stuff going on, which is obviously more important!). Mm so anyways, I'm glad Rie-chan is back, and I bet I'm not the only one :D. So yeah, it was a lot of fun brainstorming for this chapter, so I hope everyone enjoys it! And look forward to more soon, since we already have out plan for the next chapter layed out already :D
P.S. I love the way this chapter ended, don't you ;D
P.P.S. Have I mentioned how much I hate rich text? This is why I always write all my posts in HTML T_T
