Wedding stuff

Argh, wedding planning is driving me crazy. We have a smaller budget than I had originally counted on and now we can't afford the places that I liked the most. I'm determined to have the wedding on Halloween of this year, but most of the places that actually are in our price range are now booked. I hate living in one of the most expensive areas in ( Read more... )

Well, you know I love hearing about weddings! If you make a filter, please include me on it :-)

ETA: And yes, there will be many moments when the planning drives you nuts. I am sure you will end up with a venue you love, but part of the excitement is the challenge of finding it!

Hmm...most people seem ok with me talking about wedding stuff every so often, so I might not do a filter and see if people complain :)

It is quite a challenge...we might have to go to November 1 instead of October 31. We'll look at the rest of the venues we're interested in within the next two weeks and hopefully make a decision soon.

A Halloween-themed rehearsal dinner would be quite cool, and marrying on All Saints' Day would be neat. Are you going for a dark, gothy wedding? You can get away with that on the first just as well! I'm seeing a sugar skull wedding cake ;-)

A wedding is a Big Damn Deal. I would imagine most of your friends will be interested in this part of your life! Anyone who isn't can scroll past. I almost never use filters, so when I planned my wedding, I just use a specific icon/tag, and anyone who was "blah blah blah don't care" could just move on to the next entry :-D

It's not going to be a completely gothy wedding (Steve isn't into that as much as I do), but it will have goth touches, definitely.

I'll start tagging all of my wedding posts - I think that's the best idea. Thank you :)

I wouldn't do a separate filter for wedding posts unless you start doing multiple posts a day.

Ah ... how many friends and family do you have locally?

If it's not too many, you could always have the wedding elsewhere.

For a Halloween wedding, you could no doubt get good results by renting out some bare space, renting tables & chairs, and decorating it ... but that takes time and energy.

I doubt I'll do multiple posts a day on wedding stuff, since I don't usually post that much :)

Most of my family is coming from out of town, but Steve's family is local. I've found a few places that are bare spaces that need decoration, but a lot of them aren't handicapped accessible, and we have two guests in wheelchairs. I'm sure something will come up, but we might have to move the wedding to November 1 instead of October 31.

Why don't you wait until next year? Then you can save up the money. Sounds like a fun plan, a halloween wedding.

I don't really want to wait any longer...plus, I don't -really- want to spend any more than we've already budgeted for the wedding; I'd rather have a down payment for a house than have a fancier wedding. We just need to find ways to save a lot of money. Thankfully, I'll have my two months off during the summer so I can do a lot of the stuff myself. It's just finding the venue that is insanely tricky.

Good luck with the wedding planning.

It doesn't matter to me if you set up a wedding filter or not. I don't mind reading about it.

Good, I'm glad that you don't mind :)

I'll need the luck, thank you! The average wedding in my area costs $38,000 - can you believe that??

It doesn't bother me if you post it all in your own journal - it's not like you're a spammy poster anyway! :)

Remember, even if you don't get what you think you want at the moment, your day will still turn out perfect.

Heh, no, I don't think I've been accused of spamming :)

I just want a wedding that is a lot of fun, reflects our personalities well, and that doesn't put us into debt. I think we can handle that.

I think our came to about $10k, but nearly half of that was the photographer. We learned the hard way that it wasn't necessary to spend so much on the photos!

That's pretty close to our budget, actually, but the money just doesn't go far here at all...the food is likely going to be at least $5000 on its own!
