Mahler really goes all the way in expressing himself. How many others here like Bruckner, do others know that there are others lesser know in the time and place lesser know? All the works I love, but the last movement to Mahler's Songs of the Earth are incredible. Bernstein and Walter are great Mahler conductors, also one's you mention, not everyone is. I love that like Respighi he added mandolin parts to his works, Mahler you are incredible!

Those of you in the Pittsburgh area or near enough to the Pittsburgh area that coming here wouldn't be considered a major trip better get your tails over to this concert! Today, Gilbert Kaplan spoke to us at the Conductor's Guild Conference in NYC. I never knew that Mahler was a vegetarian... or that Wagner was.

has anybody read this book? er, this edition of the letters? released in 2004, this version is $26 (on sale) at amazon.com. cornell university press, gunther weiss (ed). looks quite snazzy & i am highly tempted (but financially not well off).

Last night here in Cleveland, I heard Red [an orchestra] perform Schoenberg's orchestration of Mahler's Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen, semi-staged, along with songs by Alma Mahler.
