Melon Field 5 [Chris]

Jul 08, 2008 23:48

The nearest melon field is a short trip to the north. But despite its proximity to the town, the forest quickly thickens, and this melon field sits in a perfect weedless square, looking odd against the wild bushes all around it. Squirrels and bears rabbits occasionally skirt about, though they flee at the first sign of people. Some sunlight ( Read more... )

Hayate peered intently at Blue #4. "An unbreakable melon... I bet if I were to break it, I could get a reward." But how did one go and break the unbreakable? Hayate sat down, pondering how to possibly break open the melon. Maybe a hammer? But that just seemed... cliche. Besides, where would he get a hammer? Perhaps a sword... but again, where?

Maybe it was only a rumor and they really were breakable? It would definitely be a good idea to test. Reaching out, he knocked on the shell of the melon, testing to see how hard it was. "Let's see..."

Blue #4 moves from the force of the knocks, but nothing else happens.

Alarmed, Hayate jumped back, watching the melon move, cautious if anything else happened. As nothing did, he sighed, then laughed. "Haha... N-Nothing's going to happen if I break it open... right? It's not like there's something in there... right?"

Putting aside his doubts, Hayate picked up the melon and tossed it into the air. He had quickly figured out that his strength and endurance had been way above average, especially after being hit with a guitar and being perfectly fine. Maybe he trained before he came here? As the melon came down he took a deep breath, readied his hand, and lashed out, attempting to split the melon down the middle...

The melon went flying in the direction in which it was hit, but it stayed in one piece and landed with a heavy thump.

Mokona danced happily around on Fizban's hat as they neared the field. So many melons, and so cool-looking! She sprang down to perch on rainbow melon 2, before hopping around the rows to green melon 3, red melon 2, and finally coming to a halt on blue melon 1.

"Uwaa, this is so exciting! Does Grandpa have a favorite melon?"

Hrrmmm... those red ones look good. Almost reminds me of something. Fire... fire... fire something.

Mokona hopped back to Red Melon 2.

"Then maybe they open with fire!"

Good idea! Quickly! We need something to burn them with!

"See, dood? We told ya there were melons around here!" One of the Prinnies pointed to the melon field with a flipper ( ... )

The dust from the explosion settles...and the melon is still intact, albeit in a different location than where it started.

"Well, that was...impressive, I guess. For a melon." Pulling her enormous spear from whatever alternate dimension (I'm hoping it's an alternate dimension, since she doesn't have enough clothes to hide it in...) she kept it in, leaped, and came down on the melon, intending to impale it with her goddess-like power.

The ground breaks beneath the melon from the force of the impact. However, the melon itself is still intact.

Melons. Goddamn melons. Who cared about some stupid melons? Because Ren didn't.

... Or at least he was trying to convince himself he didn't while sitting next to rainbow-colored fruit. "Impossible to break, huh?" He murmured and stood up. "We'll see about that." He said, picking up rainbow melon #5 and throwing it on the ground.

Well, he had never expected it to be that easy. But there was no way Tao Ren would be defeated by a fruit. After all, he had been practicing martial arts since he could only remember. And it was a good chance to see the results of his training.

Smirking, Ren hit the melon.

I cannot believe I am back here again... After the ordeal last night, Lina had about given up on the watermelons, until she realized she was being defeated by a piece of fruit. Plus someone else had apparently somehow pulled it off, proving it was possible.

She hadn't come unprepared, though, no. At the library, she had researched melons and the customs of breaking melons~! Apparently the Japanese played a game called... 'suikawari,' where people blind folded themselves and beat watermelons with sticks and bats.

And wandering through a field while blind folded and going smashy smashy with a bit didn't sound like a bad idea at all.

No, really, if anyone else managed to get smacked by a blind folded girl with a bat, as far as Lina was concerned, they it was their fault.

So pulling her headband down over her eyes once she arrived at this melon field, she began to randomly attempt smashing water melons with her bat, hitting ...blue 1, red 2, green 2, mutli 3, green 3, green 4, red 5, blue 5, and tripping over red 3 at some point.

Unfortunately for Lina, these melons had no respect for Japanese culture.
