I'm sorry you've been having such trouble with your computer, I hope it'll work okay now. It seems like some computers just wind up being a lot more problematic than others. Mine's just a little over two years old, and it's behaved pretty well. The only thing I've had to replace is the mouse (and some stuff I voluntarily upgraded), while my dad's, which was similar and just a little older, has had a lot more problems, and then the one he got to replace it has been having issues too. But that would especially suck to get what's supposed to be a really high end computer and have it not work right.
Yeah, I had the same situation with my first car (a brand new Toyota). I guess some things are just lemons. You replace them, switch brands or whatever, and then things are sunshine and roses again. :)
I've gotten in arguements with people before about the wisdom of buying a Dell, and while what happened to you is unfortunate, it DOES back up my arguement that Dell is a ripoff. I knew several people from Rockdale (which wasnt very far from Round Rock, where Dell pretty much owns the town) who worked for Dell who all said Dell was crap. These were the guys who actually built the machines and put them together. They were doing a crappy job and they knew it, but they did as they were told. they had quotas for how many needed to be built each day, and they simply werent given enough time.
People go on and on about how great Dell is because of the warranties and customer support, but honestly, if the machine was made right to start with, all the warranties in the world wouldnt matter.
Right now, their customer support is exactly why I hate Dell. I had an appointment yesterday with someone from Dell to replace my broken mother board (for the third time, I think). I was stood up. And the phone tech people don't send out a mother board when I call, but wait for someone with a penis calls and tells them the same thing. They refuse to let me speak to supervisors, hang up on me, don't listen to me, and tell me "I can't change the past" when explaining why I have zero faith in their company.
Sorry to hear about that, Donna! My Dell laptop works great, but have to admit that when we got it used, I had to do alot to it (including a few re-installs) before it started running well. I think the previous user (and the tech at the used pc store) didn't know what they were doing, and were trying some other kind of OS install, not putting the drivers it needed in there. I haven't been happy with any of the brand name pre-built pc's I've seen lately. My former "employer" got a brand new HP desktop, and they had the stupidest, most unusable peripheral input/output setup I've ever seen. It was really bad...

I've never bought one and I never will.

I'm going to go back to reading Consumer Reports, dammit. It's the only way to go.
