My 2007 Vineman Half Ironman Adventure

Jul 26, 2007 12:04

I'd been working out regularly since I recovering from my ankle injury in January, but I still wasn't feeling 100%. Regardless, I decided to go for it. After staying up a little later than I wanted to on Saturday night with last minute preparations, I showed up, ready to go ( Read more... )

I read on Bev's journal that you were in the race too, and I just read the report you posted on your own journal. Congrats on the great finish :)

I remember passed by the incident your man was in, and remember seeing him on the ground as well. Glad to hear he's going to be okay!

"Pain is temporary. If I quit, it lasts forever" -Lance Armstrong

Sometimes I think the stories of pain through a race get to me more than the participants who fly through these events.. Afterall it's called Ironman not Easyman... Congrats man. The medal is truly worth it at the end....

Anyways, you wouldn't of wanted to watch Hopkins pull a Pedrosa into Hayden at turn 2 this past weekend... grrrr....

Bummer that the two top Americans went out like that.

I guess I can't say that I passed on MotoGP because I didn't want to deal with the heat, can I...

Dude, I feel your pain! You may be a good candidate for Thermolytes. I heart them v. much!

Man, that run course was tough in the heat! Even if I was 100%, I don't think I could have reached my goal.

After speaking with some people, I may have been taking too many Endurolytes, too much Cytomax / Gatorade Endurance Formula, and not enough water. Thanks for the link, I'll give em a shot!

water is key. I don't tolerate Cytomax, Gatorade or Gatorade Endurance on long workouts or in the heat. I've had good luck with Hammer, Infinit & SportsQuest Direct products. Ya gotta find what works best for you, ya know?!

sounds much like my Wildflower long course race back in 2003 and it was even that hot that year.

after another blow-out DNF at the LAF century at mile 99 I spent serious time on hydration strategy. what works for me and fillerdante have discussed at length, is Ultima Replenisher. Bev isn't so keen but it works for me, along with no liquid carbs. on a hot day I need 2x per hour with at least 1x water(750mm). then for energy do solids or if you can't on the run, a gel.

well done for finishing though, I know your pain!

Mike mike mike mike, what are we gona do with you! Its commendable that you pushed through such a hard race and finished. But dude, you might want to consider training next time! lol Sounds like you were very lacking and if I know you, your like me and when tempted with those sexy motorcycles its easy to be lead astray.

It actually wasn't the motorcycles - I've only ridden the new GSX-R once since I picked it up a month or so ago! And the magazine hasn't pitched me anything new to test since the GSX-R1000.

I was still training 5-6 days a week, but my training didn't accurately simulate the course conditions. Without a solid program, it didn't have the structure it used to have. And until about one month before my taper, I was spending time on my new big-travel mountain bike than I should have been spending on my roadbike.

The Santa Cruz Sentinel Tri is two months out - I'll try to at least partially redeem myself then :)
