Chi Running my way to a sub 6 hour Half IM...

Feb 26, 2008 13:37

In the never-ending quest to shed time off of my runs, I took a Chi-Running clinic with some friends of a couple of weeks ago. I read the book before attending, but after working with the instructor, it really began to click.

Huh. I normally wouldn't even consider doing something like this, even though I'm a terrible runner - just because I don't usually trust... workshops, I suppose. Your four-mile post-clinic run doesn't seem like a huge improvement, but a 7.2 mile run is WAY better - faster, with a slightly lower bpm. Congrats on the improvement, and thanks for the recommendation.

I was looking at the heart rate more than anything else during that 4 miler.

During that run, I was working hard on finding just the right posture - once I found it, I was easily clicking off a pace around 9:30 while keeping my hr below 150. It was a great feeling!

interesting.

however, i am deeply suspicious of anything that involves eastern philosophy that does not also involve easterners. it's a bit too stuffwhitepeoplelike for me.

My girlfriend has the Pose Running DVD, and says the same thing about it.

I found Pose Running kinda interesting. The physics of it only make sense on a treadmill (touch the treadmill as little as possible to avoid slowing down) but a certain amount of pushing back is necessary to fight the wind resistance of actual running. On the other hand, I think that doing what it said did make me slightly faster just because I wasn't lifting my heels high enough.

Then again, the Marlboro Man runs faster than me.

There's a list of instructors and workshops on the site:

Hope that helps!

Maybe contact an instructor and see if one of them can set something up for you? That's what we did, but we had a group doing it.
