I jusgt read an article in the NY Times magazine about how aerobic exercise - especially the kind that makes you huff and puff - increases brain function (or at least it does for lab rats). Soupe aux poissons (des poissons?)
I just made one of the best soups ever. Whole Foods was selling fish frames (heads, tails, skeletons - all full of meat) for $.99/lb (in contrast to the $14.99/lb fillets I also bought). Made stock out of the frames, took the flesh off before it got too cooked, and tossed the bones back in the pot. Sauteed some onions, added some potatoes I cooked ( Read more... ) -

I attended a day long workshop in Mindfulness practice. I confess my main motivation to do this workshop was what looked to be a fairly painless way to get Continuing Ed credits for my psychology license, but I do also have some interest in the topic. The scent of orange blossoms from the trees in our yard is filling my bedroom. It's heavenly. -
Is nostalgia what it used to be?
While channel surfing the telly last night, I caught the second half of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I found myself having the same emotional reaction I do when looking at childhood pictures of my children. So young! So cute! Where did all the time go? spreading happiness, one pot at a time
I took a bunch of pots I had made to work today to give away. They were the leftovers from a show I had been in and from my daugher's selection of stuff she wanted for herself - which is to say, each and every item was flawed and lame. Rain, glorious rain
It's been raining for the past couple of days - good, solid, steady rain. This is the first real soaker we've had since the start of this rain season, and it makes me very happy. -
My Big Toe
A few days ago, my left big toe started to feel funny. I didn't think much about it at first - assumed my sock had gotten bunched up or something, and went about my business. Epiphany, cont.
Bought myself some 11"x15" watercolor paper, and a set of 18 tubes of watercolor. I used one of the pages to do a sample of each of the colors in their unaltered state. They're so rich and luscious they took my breath away. I also took a piece of regular drawing paper and painted stripes of the "leftover" test colors, close enough so that the ( Read more... ) -
Epiphany
I had an epiphany today. It occurred outside the ladies room of one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco. (The restaurant is called Delancy Street. It's run by a rehab organization of the same name to train recovering addicts for jobs in the upscale restaurant business.
