I found this essay interesting. . .Dr. Watkins argues why we should not feel any sympathy for Gates given his arrest by Cambridge police for allegedly burglarizing his own home.

Talk about what it means to be a black man in America (see me shake my head). In a way, however, having this happen brings a great deal of attention to "born suspect" mentality that a lot of whites have toward black men --- even those who represent the the greatest university in the country.

I was/am totally UNDERWHELMED by the flick. Maybe I was expecting too much, which is also a possibility. But the book was so rich and the movie didn't even touch the surface about Voldemort's background or even note how many murders he had already racked up by the time he was a Hogwarts senior (as in, by that time, he had killed at least three ( Read more... )

I would have preferred a review by A.O. Scott because I really like Scott's reviews. Don't know anything about the reviewer this time around, but the review isn't great. Oh well. You can't win everyone over. . .
