Chapter 15
“Can I kiss you again?” Ninomiya’s soft voice said, close to his ear, making butterflies explode in Ohno’s stomach.
“Hai,” he breathed, lifting his head from Nino’s shoulder, his cheeks flushed.
And once again Nino’s soft lips met his, sending his body spinning from emotional overload and making him shiver in the best possible way.
The emotions Ninomiya made him feel were nearly unbearable.
And at the same time the host asked himself how the customer did it, how he made him feel all these emotions. Emotions that had never before seen the light of day.
And what were these emotions?
“Maybe we should…,” Ninomiya’s words ripped him from his thoughts; he had taken a step back from Ohno and was looking at him questioningly. Back?
And in that moment Ohno became aware of his surroundings again. They were at the club, surrounded by people and lulled by the slow music. When had they stopped dancing?
When the next song started, fast and upbeat, Nino took Ohno’s hand and led him off the dance floor.
‘He’s… holding my hand…’
But the thought vanished to be replaced by an unpleasant sensation in his stomach when he saw Aiba sitting at their table alone. What had he missed when he was lost in his bubble of intimacy with Ninomiya?
“Masaki-san? Where… where is Sho-kun?” he asked at once, the feeling in his stomach becoming stronger. It wasn’t like Sho to disappear, especially when Ohno knew that he had a long night ahead of him still.
Aiba had looked happy when they had walked towards him, but as soon as Ohno mentioned Sho the look in his eyes changed. Became dull and sad.
He even lowered his gaze slightly.
“We… argued. And now he’s gone home, I guess…,” the customer answered sadly. He didn’t look like the happy-go-lucky man Ohno had first met anymore.
Ohno wanted to say something, but Nino beat him to it:
“Huh…? Since when did you argue with people, Aiba-chan?” he asked in disbelief. The question was meant to cheer him up and after saying this, Nino sat down next to Aiba and put his arm around his shoulders.
Ohno had a harder time understanding what Masaki had said.
“What…? You argued? He left? Huh?” he stuttered, too surprised to form whole sentences. Sho just didn’t do things like that.
Sho was the one who had taught him to always be polite, who was always so careful when talking to customers. No, Sho would never argue with a customer and he would never leave when he had to work.
“I… I’m sure it was just a misunderstanding… right?” he asked hesitantly, finally able to get his thoughts into order and form whole sentences. But his gaze was still fixed on Aiba, confused and hoping that things could be cleared up quickly. That Sho wouldn’t get into trouble.
But the customer only laughed quietly, bitterly, and shook his head.
“It wasn’t a misunderstanding…,” he said sadly and Ohno could see Nino pull him closer into his side and move his arm up and down his back. Aiba closed his eyes and burrowed deeper into Nino’s arms. It seemed to be what he needed at the moment and Nino had understood it without words.
“But… I didn’t mean to hurt him… I just wanted to help…,” Aiba continued, sighing deeply. “But he didn’t understand and then I got angry…”
Ohno looked at Masaki sadly. When they first met Masaki had been friendly and very happy and Ohno had liked him from the get-go.
Another reason why he couldn’t believe that he had gotten into a heated argument with Sho.
“I’m sorry, Masaki-san… Sho-kun… maybe, he had a bad day… maybe he just misunderstood you and got angry. He isn’t usually like that. Usually he’s the most polite host around here,” he apologized, suddenly feeling the intense need to defend Sho, to find an explanation for his actions, even thought he didn’t understand it himself.
“I’m sure he… didn’t mean it that way…”
A small smile appeared on Aiba’s lips, but Ohno wasn’t sure if it was real or fake.
“Thanks, Satoshi-kun. But I think… tonight showed that clubs like this just aren’t the right place for me…”
Aiba stood up and sent Nino a look Ohno couldn’t read at all. But Nino nodded.
“I’ll leave the two of you to it. Enjoy the rest of your night, ok?”
A quick goodbye followed and then Masaki disappeared.
Ohno could only watch his retreating form sadly, still confused by Sho’s actions. But all his thoughts fled when he felt the familiar warmth close to his skin and an arm around his back. He hadn’t even heard Nino close the space between them.
“I’ll stay a little longer… if you want me to,” he said softly.
Ohno relaxed again at once, lent against his favourite customer and simply enjoyed his closeness.
“Hai… stay.”
He had hardly spoken the words when he realized what he had done.
“Eh… I mean, if you want to,” he said, his cheeks reddening, “That is… hai… only if you want to…”
Something had changed after the kisses they had shared on the dance floor, something had made his interactions with Ninomiya different, gave him a strange feeling every time he was close to him.
Quiet laughter spilled over Nino’s lips and a second later Ohno felt Nino’s hand ruffle his hair.
“You’re silly…”
He didn’t realize that someone was following him until it was too late. Sakurai Sho had only seen the men following him when he took the last turn and they followed him even into a small back alley.
He didn’t want to turn around, but saw from the corner of his eye that there was more than one. Sho walked faster, only to hear the men behind him speed up, too.
‘Damn! What do I do now?’ the young host thought despairingly. He had no idea what the men wanted from him, whether they only wanted to scare him or do something else to him.
Sho started to panic.
Although he had finally calmed down again. After his second encounter with Aiba he had been shaken, he hadn’t been able to sleep for more nights than he cared to count. But now, after a few weeks of not seeing the customer, he had calmed down. He could even lock away his memories once more and hide the key where he was sure he wouldn’t find it again.
The façade he had rebuilt was strong enough to make him believe he could forget again. He almost believed the façade was the real him.
But with his pursuers came the anxiety again. A different kind of anxiety than the one Aiba had caused, but equally unpleasant.
And then he heard the voice, a voice he knew all too well.
“Sho-chan!”
Sho whirled around, stared at his pursuers and recognized his former customer among them. He had been so glad when the customer had stopped coming to the club.
“Togami-san. What are you doing here?” he asked, his tone lacking his usual host-politeness. “Meeting outside of working hours is not allowed, you know that. Come back to the club if you have money.”
With these words he turned around again, tried to fight down the lump in his throat, hoping that his words had convinced the man, that his tone of voice had been enough to stop them following him.
He had taken a few steps and sighed in relief, when he was thrown against a wall.
Damn.
“Togami-san…,” he started, but was cut off immediately by the customer.
“But Sho-chan… I’m here to see you! I… I don’t have the money to go to the club anymore! It’s all gone…! I… lost my job!” The older man sounded desperate, but his desperation didn’t cause Sho to pity him as he had most likely hoped it would.
“Togami-san…,” Sho said, trying to force a smile on his lips despite the position he was in. Fear took hold of him, made the lump in his throat grow bigger and his heart beat faster. The man kept him pressed against the wall with all his might. He closed the space between them and Sho didn’t know what do to. Here, in this deserted back alley.
And Togami wasn’t alone. Four men, all of them roughly the same age as the former customer, surrounded them, stared at him.
“L-isten… that’s… really nice of you, to come here, but you know as well as I do that you can’t. Those are the rules and on top of that you have a wife, right?” Sho tried to get his stammering under control, tried to not let his panic show. He had to be Sho the host, had to be indomitable. He couldn’t show the customer that he, Sho, wasn’t in control of the situation at all.
But the customer only laughed quietly, completely confusing Sho.
“My wife is gone. I made sure she was!”
The customer nodded quickly, happily, and his eyes glittered for a moment, then he gave Sho another piercing look.
“I made sure we could have a great life together. Just the two of us. You and I.”
Sho breathed in sharply. He could suddenly feel the customer’s pelvis pressed against his, his breath on his cheeks, his rough lips on his skin.
It was too much.
Sho did the only thing he could think of in that moment. He pushed Togami away from him with as much force as he could muster. He heard him land between the garbage cans lining the opposite wall with a crash.
“Don’t touch me! Are you insane?!” he shouted, his eyes narrowed in anger. „Get away from me! It’s not my problem if you don’t have any money! I should thank your boss for firing you, actually!”
He was angry, unbelievably angry. Who did Togami think he was? Who did he think Sho was that he should just let some pervert grope him?
But a second later his eyes widened, panic shining through them, and he couldn’t take his eyes of the blade moving towards him. Togami had gotten up at once and was now rushing towards him again.
“Sho-chan… how can you say that…? I sacrificed everything for you! Everything!” Togami said, his voice distorted. Sho couldn’t believe what was happening to him. Didn’t want to believe that the situation was getting more and more hopeless.
He could only stare at the knife in Togami’s hand.
“Only together can we be happy…”
This couldn’t be happening.
This couldn’t be happening to him.
It couldn’t be fucking happening!
Sho saw the knife get closer, saw the glint of madness in Togami’s eyes. Now the customer lifted his other hand, too, warm, rough fingers closed around Sho’s throat, cut off his breath.
The blade came closer and closer. And he couldn’t look away, couldn’t lift his gaze from where it was fixed on the knife.
Sho couldn’t break Togami’s grip. He panicked, he couldn’t think, couldn’t do anything but stare at the knife. Everything left to him was the blinding fear holding him in a tight grip.
He suddenly realised how right he had been; Togami really was insane.
“Get your dirty hands off him!” an angry voice suddenly came from the mouth of the alley. A moment later the hand was gone from his throat, the pressure, the knife everything was gone.
“Leave!” Aiba hissed, very close to Sho. And then everything happened lightning fast.
Sho could only watch. Aiba was about to turn to the other men. But Togami was back on his feet, light flashed off the knife. He raised his hand.
And thrust the knife.
