Long Day...
Elizabeth got me up at 8, but Fairlith and Jordan, her boyfriend from New York, were coming by at 9:30, so I didn't bother trying to coax the baby back to sleep. As a result she was crotchety all day. But, she did say her first word, which was exciting, and I called my parents about it ( Read more... ) -
Yay!!
Elizabeth said her first word today.
She was sitting in her highchair, and had finished her lunch. She was waving her hands in the air, and, quite clearly said, "Up!"
I said, "Up?"
She said, "Up!" and then made the sign for "Up".
This afternoon she did it again.
She's a genius. -
Family Outing!
When I was a kid, family outings consisted of a lot of work and stress and anticipation that never came through. We'd leave late, mom stressed, fight in the car, unload everyone and everything, stay too long until everyone was miserable and cranky, and come home completely exhausted and at each others' throats ( Read more... ) -

Self-Awareness
So, the current wisdom is that babies become self-aware at around 18 months. The test for this is that they place the baby before a mirror, with a dab of lipstick on the baby's nose. If the baby, seeing her reflection, wipes her own nose, the conclusion is that the baby has realized that the baby in the mirror is, in fact, herself, and is, ( Read more... ) -

So, the sleep training took one day. Yep. One day. One nap, one bedtime, less than three hours of screaming, total, and now she goes down, happy, sweet and quiet, holds her own bottle and is asleep in minutes, every time ( Read more... ) -

I love my Spectral boys. The brothers, Simon and Des Hussey, Blake Drezet, and the new boy in the gang, Mike Cope, who I actually worked with on the ShowCase Festival, a few years back.
