OMG the sodium in food!!!
I was investigating hoisin sauce at the grocery store this afternoon, and the first one I grabbed was a more 'traditional' brand product. It had over 1000mg of sodium per serving. Wow, that's worse than soy sauce! So I was all set to give up on it til I picked up the Central Market brand. It was 100 times lower in sodium! Yes, you read that right ( Read more... ) -

Tomorrow's trip to the Transplant Hospital
I am supposed to be down in San Antonio on Wednesday morning to see the surgeons, and I am finding it hard to see the point. This visit is not going to affect my standing on the transplant list. The fires are getting closer
So wildfires are nothing new in Texas. It's dry as hell normally, and windy, but this year we have a very bad drought on top of that. The news has been talking about fires in West Texas for several days, but today it was local - South Austin. The 'Y' at Oak Hill, for those who know the town. I bought a roll of chocolate chip cookie dough the other day on a momentary whim fueled by PMS cravings. Now that I'm over that, the roll of cookie dough is still there every time I open the fridge. I am not really tempted by it, but still...I know if I open it I will not stop until I have used it all up. Either raw or cooked, it does not matter. ( Read more... ) -
I miss dill pickles
I went out to lunch with Mom today, and when my food came, there was a dill pickle spear as a garnish on my plate. And it smelled SO GOOD. That was the one thing I could smell - not the curried chucjeb sakad sandwich, not Mom's french toast with bacon and eggs - the dill pickle. On being a 'compliant patient'
Over the past several months I've been referred to as /compliant' by several of my health care provicers. (Both my endocrinologist and my dialysis nurse) This always baffles me, as I don't particularly feel like I'm being compliant. It came up again today at dialysis, and this time I asked.
