The 100 books meme as lists. I tend to read non-fiction a lot more than fiction (except for easy to read stuff like Pratchett or crime). Am I missing out? Any that would change my life more than a really informative non-fiction book?

I don't know whether to be amused or aghast at this [rejected] petition on the Number 10 website that seems to imply Carlisle is in Scotland.

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Make it right that both Carlisle United and Swansea play in their domestic League

Today is Workers' Memorial Day - when we are asked to remember all those who are killed in the line of work, and remember the importance of health and safety to all of us who toil. The weather has been (pretty) wonderful since heading back to Durham on Sunday - really feeling like Spring again, and making my current office desk feel positively tropical (seated directly opposite several large south facing windows).  Went for a walk down Houghall Woods on Monday which felt very springy with daffodils, birds, livestock etc.  ( Read more... )

Came home from Chesterfield last night after being stuck on the A1(M) for way too long to find our electricity out.  Eventually established that the connection between our house and next door was no more (a daft set-up if you ask me).  NEDL came out quickly and courtesy of some drilling and a big wire running through into next door we now have ( Read more... )

Had a great time at Chris and Jennifer's wedding on Thursday at Lumley Castle What a wonderful day it was and Chris and Jennifer looked absolutely over-the-moon. Everyone looked amazing - bride, groom, bridesmaids, guests. It all brought back many happy memories of my own wedding four years ago.
