Pioneer rocks. My job is fun. Yesterday I ground up corn leaves with a mortar and pestle and liquid nitrogen. I've been telling everyone about it, mainly because mortar and pestle don't come up often in everyday conversation. And why am I grinding up leaves?...for RNA Isolation. Life is alright. Work is good. Yesterday I learned how to do DNA extractions from corn leafs. It is a three day process, which we will finish tomorrow. So Pioneer is wonderful after only 2 days. I have a lot, and I mean A LOT, more responsibility than ever before. I have access to the seed handling room and access to way more computer stuff. Like their genetic database, which has every gene they work on and every plasmid they've created in it. And I get to work on that database every day...it's ( Read more... )

I start working at Pioneer this Thursday. It's a temp job for a year. Molecular genetics of corn...something with the flowering time gene. Similar to what I did last summer, but a bit more advanced. Olga emailed me back yesterday to say she was gonna find a position in her lab for me and she was happy I contacted her again. I think she likes me! Which is funny cuz I never really worked in her lab when I worked there last year. But she said we will keep in touch and she is working on human resources to get paperwork started. It's a job!
