The state of healthcare...
It's so much worse than I imagined. I asked my Emergency Medicine attending how he handles the obvious drug seekers who come through our department on a regular basis. I wish I hadn't asked. New depths of denial
So... today ends week 4 in my 5 week Internal Medicine rotation at the Veteran's Affairs hospital. I spend 40 hours a week on an "intermediate" ward where the patients are too sick to go home but not sick enough to be in ICU anymore. I've been having conversations with a friend about dom/sub relationships. In his world view there are only four types of people; dominates, submissives, switches, and vanillas. Feeling all grown-up like...
We (my class) had our first hospital visit yesterday. We had to go a take complete medical histories on real patients at Howard University Hospital. My pt. was cool and helpful but a couple of my classmates got schizophrenic patients who couldn't be very cooperative, they still had to get the info as best they could though. Where I'm at....
The semester has started in full force. On top of tuition we had to buy $800 worth of medical equipment and $600 in books. I had a couple of small anxiety attacks and have stopped opening the Direct Loans statement that faithfully appears in my mailbox. So it seems that my random bouts of neurotic behavior has a name... last week my therapist says that I have "traits of borderline personality disorder". Ohh-kay.
