Just missed the Aquarium blue line train by the time we bought new tickets so we walked to State St orange line station in the -4C crisp windy morning air! One station to Downtown Crossing then one stop down red line to South Station. Checked with Amtrak that our eticket is sufficient, grabbed some food to take on ( Read more... )

Only full day in Boston today. Au bon pain bakery for breakfast but Starbucks for hot choc. Decent hot drinks are hard to find it seems.

Water was off in the apartment when we got up in the morning so we just brushed teeth, thanked our hosts, and headed out. Got to the station a little after 8:30 but took a few attempts to catch a train to 33rd St as they were pretty full and we had a lot of bags. Okay, this place has finally gotten to me, I've now had a meltdown in public. Yay.

So we waited for the family to get the kids off to school before getting up in case we caused a distraction. I washed my hair and we headed out to find breakfast. Ended up going to Dunkin’ Donuts to try it. Unsurprisingly, was not worth it!

We wanted to make an early start for New York, but in light of me not being well and the tickets getting cheaper through the day, we decided in the end to opt for the midday bus.

First full day of conference. Paul from CSIRO in Hobart, now at PCMDI, is here, had lunch with him at the local brewing company place.

Day 1 2/12/2016 Sydney - LAX - Washington DC

777-300ER. Flight mostly fine, apart from a stretch over the Intertropical Convergence Zone and Internatioal Date Line. Had a few panics, was very glad to have Arwin with me. Watched the movie Pride, which was really good.
