School started the next day and Quinn had an early Cheerios practice. After nearly three weeks of sleeping in, five in the morning hit her hard. She didn’t get nearly enough sleep and she was cranky and agitated and just not happy. So when Chemistry rolled around near the end of the day she couldn’t have been dreading it more.
She walked into class, one of the first ones there since her last class was close by, and sat down. Usually she would stay out in the hallway and socialize but today she was just so tired. She somehow resisted the urge to drop her head to the desk and take a nap because, hello! She was Quinn Fabray and that was the opposite of keeping her composure. Instead she took out her book and notebook and waited for her least favorite class to start.
For Tina, the first day back to school was much like any other day. She got coffee and a doughnut with Mercedes in the morning, passed notes with Kurt in her first morning math class (he appeared to have dropped the Quinn thing... for now), joked around with Mike in PE, and sat at her usual table for lunch with Artie and whoever else dropped by. All in all, it was a pretty normal day, but she’d been in an oddly chipper mood for most of it. To anyone else it would seem she’d just had one too many espresso shots in her morning coffee, but Tina had a girlfriend. A secret one, but one nonetheless. And she was kind of excited about it.
“I’ll see you later,” she called out to Rachel, before walking into her still pretty empty Chemistry class. Automatically heading towards her seat in the back row, she was distracted by Quinn sitting a couple rows ahead of hers. She stopped suddenly, just kinda staring at her. “Oh. Hey! I, uh, forgot we had this class together,” she said with a laugh.
Too sleepy and dazed and annoyed, she turned around, glaring slightly, wondering who the hell was interrupting her. Not that she was necessarily doing anything, but still. Her glare quickly faded though when she saw it was Tina and she blushed slightly instead.
“Oh, um, hi... Yeah I forgot you were in this class too.” She took a moment to get a hold of herself, because this whole secrecy thing wouldn’t go well if she was caught getting all puppy eyed at Tina. Once she was sure she could act normal, she spoke again. “Um, what’s up?” Totally normal conversation.
Tina halted for a moment, trying to decide if it would be weird for her to sit next to Quinn. “Not much,” she said, walking over there anyway and taking a seat. She could move before class started. She never really saw much of Quinn during the day, so she was a little surprised at how hard she had to fight with herself to not kiss her. “What about you?”
Quinn watched Tina walk over and sit by her, watching her lips a bit too much as she spoke. That definitely wasn’t normal. Training her eyes back up, she forced herself to shrug. “I’m tired. We had practice this morning and I didn’t get to bed until late,” she said, sort of whining at first but she made herself stop. What if Tina thought that was annoying? And conversations like that indicated a deeper connection than just Glee partners. It was really hard acting like there was nothing going on.
Tina watched a couple other kids walk in and sit before turning back to Quinn. “That... sucks.” This was turning out to be a lot harder than she thought it would. If she didn’t think it would possibly piss Quinn off, she’d probably make a suggestive comment or two, but she was supposed to be acting like nothing was different. Which means that her even just sitting with Quinn right now might look weird to people. But everyone knew they were in Glee, so... she didn’t have to worry too much.
“Are you busy after school?” she asked, lowering her voice. “You could, uh, come over. Rest up at my place.” There, that wasn’t suggestive at all. She completely left out the part about planning to wear Quinn out herself first.
Quinn bit her lip slightly, trying not to smirk at that, because she sort of liked when Tina got sassy. “Yeah I’m free. No Cheerios or Glee. Uh, how late do your parents work?” She asked back quietly. She tried to make it look like she was having harsh words with Tina though so people wouldn’t get suspicious.
Tina tried not to laugh at the fact that Quinn was basically glaring at her, while making plans to hook up later that evening. “My mom is on call until really late tonight. My dad always stays late, but it’s different every time, so I’m not sure. But he usually calls when he’s on his way,” she answered, trying to keep a straight face. “So we’ll have... a lot of time.”
Noticing that the classroom was mostly full now and they really couldn’t keep having this conversation she she whispered, “Ignore what I’m about to say,” quickly before raising her voice to a normal level. “Got it? Now get out of here, Chang,” she said before turning around dismissively.
Realizing what Quinn was trying to do, Tina just rolled her eyes. Which actually probably added to their “performance” so it worked. Without saying a word, Tina stood up and made her way to the back of the classroom, to her original seat.
It was hard to pay attention through Chemistry and the teacher was just lecturing and it seemed like forever until the bell rang. Not chancing another look back at Tina, Quinn walked out of the class though took out her phone to send her a text.
I’ll meet you at your house after school, she quickly typed before hitting send. There, nothing too incriminating. With that she made her way to her last class of the day, hoping it wouldn’t drag on as long.
Tina waited until Quinn had left the classroom before getting ready to leave. She wondered if maybe she could talk to Quinn about them at least pretending to be just friends at school. It’s be nice if they could actually talk to each other every now and then without having to play like they didn’t even really like each other.
Looking at her phone as she stepped out of the classroom, she smiled at Quinn’s text. Sounds good, she replied before practically skipping off to her next class. The end of the school day couldn’t get here fast enough.
Soon enough it was the end of the day, and Quinn lingered around school a little bit as she normally would, talking to the Cheerios and grabbing books and homework from her locker. Once she had given people enough attention that they deserved she made her way to her car and sped off to Tina’s. She wasn’t sure what they were going to do (well besides make out and stuff) so she brought her backpack inside, thinking they could at least do homework together if they had nothing better to do. Bag over shoulder, she walked up the sidewalk and knocked on the door, waiting for Tina to answer.
After school, Tina made a point of hanging out with Mercedes, Kurt and Artie by their lockers for a little bit, before making some lame excuse about having to get home, and turning Artie’s invite to play Left 4 Dead for a couple hours. Deciding to actually get some homework done while she was waiting, she was just chilling in her living room, doing just that when she heard Quinn knocking.
Smiling, she opened up the door. “Hi,” she said, realizing she was slightly breathless from running to get it.
Since it was still cold out, Quinn didn’t really wait for an invitation in and stepped through the doorway, shutting the door behind her. “Hey,” she relied then stepped forward to place a peck on Tina’s lips.
After that she went to unbuttoning her coat. It’s not like it really did all that much since she was in her Cheerios uniform and her legs were all bare. It was so stupid they were required to wear it in the winter. “Um, can we make hot chocolate or something? Sorry, it’s just... cold.”
Tina looked Quinn up and down, trying not to roll her eyes at the fact that Quinn was wearing her uniform when it was freezing out. She knew she didn’t have a choice, but she still thought it was ridiculous, and she didn’t know why none of them insisted on being allowed to wear appropriate clothes. But she didn’t comment on it because she didn’t feel like getting into another argument.
“Of course,” she said, taking Quinn’s hand to lead her into the living room. “Here, I’ll get it, you sit down and try to warm up,” she said, handing her a small blanket.
“Thanks,” Quinn said, smiling. It was sort of nice being taken care of like this and she snuggled into the couch and pulled the blanket over her lap. She was mostly used to the cold weather just because she had to be, but it was nice being warm as well. “How was your last class?” She called out to the kitchen as she sank further into the couch. “This is a really comfy couch by the way,” she added as an after thought.
Tina smiled and ran off to go make the hot chocolate, deciding to make one for herself as well, because why not? “Slow,” she called out, chuckling lightly. “I have American Lit. We’re reading Catcher in the Rye, but I already have. So like, that class couldn’t go by slow enough.” It didn’t help that she was also anticipating Quinn coming over today. Pouring the chocolate powder into the cups, she stirred and made her way back into the living room. “I guess it is pretty comfy. I never really thought of it,” she said, sitting down next to Quinn and handing her the cup.
“Yeah my class too,” Quinn said when Tina was next to her. “My class. Ugh. Like these stupid idiots couldn’t understand how to factor a quadratic equation and that’s such old stuff. I don’t even know how they’re in my math class if they can’t do that,” she said, scoffing.
Quinn still had some (a lot) of the old bitch in her, she just wasn’t as open about it anymore. Not that she was being overly bitchy now, but seriously, stupid people in her math class had made the class drag on forever and she had a secret meeting with her secret girlfriend and they were just fucking shit up.
“Anyway, thanks for the hot chocolate. Do you want some blanket?” She then asked, waving the fabric teasingly. “I promise I don’t bite.”
Tsking at the pathetically low standards of her generation, Tina scooted closer to Quinn. “Bummer,” she teased, taking some of the blanket and throwing it over her legs. She wasn’t really cold, but she wasn’t going to pass up an opportunity to get cozy with Quinn. Not to mention the blanket was pretty small, so her legs were practically in Quinn’s lap. “And you’re welcome,” she said, giving her a kiss on the cheek.
“So, is there any specific time you have to be home? Because I was wondering if we’d have time for something productive,” Tina said, pointing at her homework on the table, “and something unproductive. But if we only have time for one, I’m leaning towards unproductive,” she continued with a smirk.
Just a few sips of the hot chocolate was already warming Quinn up and Tina pressed against her was helping too. Plus the blanket. She had three things warming her up right now but it was pretty cozy and awesome. “Well I probably just have to be home for dinner, which is at like six or six-thirty,” Quinn said. “So it depends how long we spend on the unproductive,” she smirked right back.
After a few sips of hot chocolate, Tina set her mug down on the coffee table. “So that gives us a little under 2 and a half hours. I think that’s plenty of time for both,” she said softly, placing a hand on Quinn’s leg (no longer all that critical about the fact that she was wearing a short skirt in the winter) which was still chilly from exposure to the cold. Kissing her lightly along the jaw line she asked, “which would you rather do first?”
Quinn set her own mug down and turned to face Tina. “Which do you think I want to do first?” She asked, smirking. If they did homework first then they might get interrupted later, and that would just not be okay for more than one reason. With that in mind, Quinn turned her head and kissed her on the lips.
“I kinda figured you’d choose this,” Tina said, smirking before Quinn’s lips met hers. She rubbed Quinn’s thigh slowly, feeling the skin get warmer under her hand. She moved in closer, raising her other hand to cup Quinn’s face as she deepened the kiss.
After kissing Tina a moment more she pulled back. “Like you would choose homework first,” Quinn said, rolling her eyes, before leaning in to kiss her again. Yeah, this so beat algebra homework.
“Actually...” she started, jokingly before Quinn was kissing her again. Normally, homework was the first thing she did after school, and it had been that way for years. But Quinn was right, she’d choose this over homework pretty much any day. “Just... kidding,” she said in between kisses.
Tina moved her hand up to Quinn’s hair before realizing it was still in a ponytail. Carefully removing the band in her hair, she ran her hands through it slowly as soon as it was free.
“That’s what I thought,” Quinn murmured against Tina’s lips and moved one of her hands to wrap around the other girl and pull her closer.
Tina lowered her hands to Quinn’s waist and started to pull her on top of Tina’s lap. Moving her mouth down to Quinn’s neck she nipped at the skin there before remembering that Quinn’s no hickey rule was probably still in effect.
Parting her legs as Tina pulled her, Quinn straddled her lap to move them closer together. “Don’t leave a mark... any place visible,” she said quietly, smirking.
“Okay,” she said quietly, smiling against Quinn’s skin. She ran both hands up Quinn’s thighs now, and instinctively moved her hips up slightly.
Quinn but her lip to hold back a whimper. That had been really unexpected but awesome and now she just wanted more, so she ground back down and leaned down to kiss Tina again.
Reaching one hand up, she pulled Quinn’s face down to kiss her properly again, while her other hand gripped Quinn’s ass and pushed their hips together, and groaned softly.
Tina was perfectly satisfied to just keep this going, in her living room, with Quinn, for as long as they wanted. Though she wasn’t intending to take it too far, because they were on her family’s couch, and that would just be weird. However, wondering if she should suggest they take things up to her room, her thoughts were interrupted by her phone.
Breaking the kiss, she strained her ears to hear who’s ringtone it was. “Oh, that’s my dad. Hold on, he’s probably letting me know when he’s coming home. Which... we would want to know,” she added, teasingly, giving Quinn a quick kiss before sliding away from her to read the text.
“Yeah, that would probably be good,” Quinn said, breathing a little heavily as she readjusted herself on the couch. She wasn’t really cold anymore so the blanket seemed unnecessary. She threw it over the back of the couch then sat back, waiting for Tina to come back so they could continue.
Tina walked over to where her bag sat on the kitchen chair, and dug around for her phone. Checking to see if it was indeed her dad, which it was, she opened the text. Tina. Be home late tonight. Left overs or take out for dinner, your choice. -Dad
Disappointed, but not surprised, Tina tossed her phone back in her bag. She was bummed, but it wasn’t like she and her dad were especially close. She just hated eating dinner alone. But she had a pretty, blonde cheerleader waiting in her living room, so trying not to dwell on it too much, she made her way back there. “He wont be home till really late tonight, so... no worries,” she said, trying to look happier about this than she was.
Quinn took Tina’s hand and pulled her back onto the couch, immediately pulling her in for a kiss. But it just didn’t feel the same now so she pulled back. “Um, is everything okay?”
Tina had thought her attempt at avoiding the subject had worked, but not as well as she thought. “It’s... nothing. I’m used to it,” she said, trying to brush it off as no big deal. And it wasn’t a big deal. It was such a common deal, and it bothered Tina that she wasn’t lying when she said she was used to it.
“And it bothers you that they’re not around.” It wasn’t a question. The expression on Tina’s face pretty much confirmed it. Quinn brought her hand up to rub Tina’s arm, hopefully in a comforting way. “I’m sorry.”
Tina shrugged, but the feel of Quinn’s hand on her arm was already making her feel a little better. “I guess,” she said, softly. “I mean, I know they’re busy with work, but...” she trailed off, looking around her living room, noticing for the millionth time that her house was too big for three people, especially when two of them were hardly ever there. “It sucks.”
“I’m sorry,” Quinn said again. She wasn’t exactly sure what to say. She understood parent issues. Her own father had kicked her out of the house when he found out she was pregnant. But before that, her parents had always doted on her and things had been pretty good.
“Has it always been like this?” Quinn asked, figuring Tina just might want to talk about it. And since they were supposed to be friends too, beyond the making out stuff, she did want to learn more about Tina.
Tina didn’t answer right away. She and Quinn were still pretty new to even just being friends. But she figured that if Quinn could trust her to keep this relationship a secret, then she could trust Quinn. “Not... always. When I was little, they were around more. But then my dad got promoted to Dean of Medicine and my mom got promoted to Head of her department, so they got a lot busier. And as I got older, I guess they figured I could start looking after myself more.” Which she could, for the most part. But it didn’t mean she enjoyed being alone half the time.
“Do you ever... tell them that you wish they were around more?” It was sort of unusual for a teenager to want their parents around, but it always seemed like you wanted what you didn’t have. Plus every kid wanted to know that their parents loved them. “Maybe if they knew you could plan stuff with them. I mean, they probably think you want them to leave you alone...” She said, shrugging slightly.
Tina shook her head, “No. They work really hard to make sure that I’m secure, I’d feel bad if I complained to them. And my mom isn’t as bad as my dad. She makes more of an effort to be involved in my life. But my dad... he’s just really traditional. To him being a good father is working hard to get me into a good college, and keep a nice roof over my head... stuff like that.” Which she was grateful for. And she thought that Quinn probably had a point. Lately, she probably did make it seem like she’d rather them leave her alone. But isn’t that what all teenagers were like? Weren’t parents supposed to pester you anyway?
Not really wanting to talk about herself anymore, Tina turned more towards Quinn. “What about your parents? Well, your mom? She seems... attentive.” Though, considering Quinn’s recent circumstances, maybe that was recent. But she had no way of knowing, and she wanted to know more about Quinn’s life outside of school as well.
Quinn shrugged again. “All I’m saying is, things won’t change unless you say anything. But it’s your choice.” Pushing some hair behind her ear, and thinking about how weird it was to have her hair out of her Cheerios ponytail, she thought about how to respond to Tina.
“She’s probably trying to make up for stuff,” Quinn said finally. “You know I got kicked out last year when they found out I was pregnant, but it was mostly my dad’s doing. Like, my mom just sat there and pretended she didn’t know I was pregnant. There was no way she couldn’t have known. We had this custom made dress for the Chastity Ball and suddenly it didn’t fit me and she measured my waist and it was way too big for me to have just had a big lunch. But she just sat there and let him do it,” she said, starting to feel emotional about the whole situation. She usually tried not thinking about it for that very reason. “Anyway, she probably still feels guilty,” she concluded lamely.
Tina didn’t really know how to respond to that. Maybe her own mother wasn’t around that often, but she was oddly perceptive sometimes and in no way would have sat idly by, knowing Tina was pregnant. She also knew that no matter what she did, the chances of her parents ever kicking her out was slim.
“Well, maybe she’s a little late, but at least she’s trying now. And that’s something,” she finally said. Somewhere during that rant, Tina had taken Quinn’s hand in her own. “I think sometimes people want to feel secure, so they just let someone else take control of their life. And then they don’t like what that person is doing, but they don’t know how to do anything about it. But it’s cool that your mom was able to take her control back. And it seems to me like she did it for you, which means she obviously loves and cares about you.”
Quinn bit her lip doubtfully. “Sometimes I only think she came to the see us at Regionals last year was because my dad cheated on her and with him gone, she didn’t want to be completely alone... But I know she loves me too. I mean, she has to, right? She’s my mom,” she said, her frown deepening as she continued to talk.
Tina thought about that, but wondered if that was really the case. “Maybe. Or maybe that was like the last straw. I mean, he kicks you out to, what, preserve the sanctity of family and whatnot, and then he has the nerve to cheat on her,” Tina rambled, getting angrier than she probably should have. “Sorry,” she said, once she realized it. “I guess it’s not really my place to make those assumptions.”
Honestly, thinking about her dad made her angry too, but Tina’s reaction made her feel better in a weird way. Quinn squeezed the other girl’s hand and smiled at her slightly. “You’re right. My mom probably has more backbone than I give her credit for. And...” she paused, smirking now. “You’re really cute when you get worked up.”
Tina felt her anger melt away at the squeeze of Quinn’s hand and the smile on her face. “Am I?” she asked, feeling a small smile take the place of her pout. “Well, you’re pretty cute all the time,” she said, feeling a little embarrassed about her rant.
“Yeah,” Quinn said, still smirking as she gave Tina’s hand another squeeze. “So, was it driving you crazy that we couldn’t kiss at school? Because in Chemistry I kept looking at your lips and it was driving me insane.”
“Yes!” Tina said, laughing. Those Cheerios uniforms were really unfairly tantalizing. She was starting to like them more and more... but she wasn’t about to admit that she was perving on Quinn in her super short skirt. “That reminds me though,” and now she had to word this carefully. “Do you think maybe we could at least act like we’re... acquaintances or something, at least? I mean, we’re in Glee together, and everyone knows that, so it wouldn’t be that unusual for us to talk... without you still pretending you don’t like me,” she finished with a hopeful smile.
“Sorry... that I was so bitchy. I sort of panicked. I’m sure we can gradually work our way to being friendly. I promise next time I won’t snarl at you,” Quinn said, smirking a little. “Can you forgive me?” She asked, raising her eyebrow slightly, suggestively.
Tina waved off the apology, “Of course I can,” she said, leaning over to place a nice, long kiss on Quinn’s lips. “And I know. We both forgot we had that class together, so it’s not like we were able to plan for it. But thanks,” she said, satisfied with Quinn’s answer and picking up where she left off with that kiss.
Quinn smiled as she pulled Tina closer to her as they kissed. She was glad that they had just had that conversation, even though it had been kind of depressing. They seemed more connected now and it made kissing her even better. Snaking a hand down to Tina’s waist, Quinn eventually moved it to the other girl’s ass and gave a light squeeze, smirking against Tina’s lips.
Tina laughed lightly into the kiss when Quinn squeezed her. “You really like doing that, don’t you? Not that I’m complaining,” she said, as she started to push Quinn down to lie on the couch. Kissing and biting lightly at her neck. She ran her hands down Quinn’s waist to her thighs, pushing her hands up Quinn’s skirt. “Okay. I hope you don’t think this is weird,” she said, in between kisses. “But I kind of love your legs. I was staring at them during most of chemistry class.”
“I do like doing this,” Quinn said, giving Tina’s ass another squeeze, before getting back into their kissing. Tina’s hands on her legs felt really amazing and they hadn’t really done this before, the whole ‘under the skirt’ thing, so she was slightly bucking up in anticipation. “Well I guess these uniforms are good for something in the winter,” she smirked.
“I guess so,” Tina said, a little breathless. They kissed for a little while longer, Tina just enjoying the feel of Quinn against her, but her body was getting anxious, and unless they were going to be taking this upstairs, she thought they might want to bring things to a halt. Pulling away from Quinn slightly, she managed to get out, “Um, I think maybe we should pause things here, if we actually wanna get any work done,” she said, glancing over at her homework again, and internally kicking herself for being all responsible and whatnot, when she’d much rather just make out with Quinn some more.
A little disappointed, Quinn nodded, knowing Tina was right. They were going to end up going a lot further unless they stopped right then. Her body obviously wanted it but they had agreed this bad to be about more than just sex. And she wanted it to be, but her body was definitely betraying her.
Tina straightened up and moved so that Quinn could get out from under her before sitting back down on the couch. Running a hand through her hair, she tried catching her breath. “Uh... okay,” she started, trying to regain control of her body. “What, um, what do you want to work on?”
“Uh, I have to go to the bathroom,” Quinn said, hopefully not to suddenly then stood up and walked off. Once in the bathroom she ran the water, splashing a little cold water on her neck and cheeks, trying to get herself to cool down. Eventually after a few minutes of leaning over the sink she deemed herself calm enough.
Quinn walked back into the living room, feeling embarrassed all over, but she had to do what she had to do... “Hey,” she said, once she was finally back in front of Tina. “I have algebra homework...”
Tina took Quinn’s absence as an opportunity to do the same thing, in the kitchen. Rushing back into the living room, she’d just managed to sit back down when she heard the door to the bathroom open. She smiled at Quinn as she made her way back into the living room. “Me too. Though I was working on my American History homework,” she said, pointing at the books on her table. “But I can work on the math with you. Algebra 2, right? Our homework is probably similar, if not the same. I have Mr. Greene,” she rambled, pulling her bag over to her and taking out her math book.
It was really hard for Quinn to be motivated to do homework when Tina was right next to her, babbling and being all cute. She almost had a hard time focusing on what she was saying. “Oh. Um, yeah. Algebra 2. But I have Ms. Tanner...”
It all sort of seemed to go downhill from there. Quinn dropped her pencil about 8 times and started doing problems from the wrong section. But really she should have known something was wrong when she didn’t understand any of the problems she thought she had to do. Finally though, once she found the right page she zipped through them pretty quickly and let out a relieved sigh when she dropped her pencil, on purpose, into her book.
Leaning back into the couch, she looked at Tina. “Uh, I’m done, are you?”
Quinn’s flustered behavior was making Tina kind of tense. And there were times when she stared at a math problem for a good five minutes before finally working it out, distracted by almost every move Quinn made. Luckily, she’d finished a good chunk of it during the free time she’d had at the end of class.
She was just checking over her answers when Quinn finished. “Just about,” she answered, quickly reworking out every problem in her head. She just hoped she wasn’t muttering out loud, a nasty habit she’d picked up from Artie, which just made her seem crazy. “Okay,” she said, once she was satisfied. She leaned back against the couch as well, hyper-aware of Quinn’s shoulder touching hers.
“That was... productive,” Quinn said slowly. Except not really. Usually her math homework took like, no time at all but it had taken forever with Tina distracting her. Tina probably wasn’t trying to, but there was just a combination of a million things and she thought she was going to go crazy. Maybe homework dates wouldn’t (or shouldn’t) be a part of their secret relationship.
“Yeah. Slow, but productive,” Tina agreed, chuckling lightly. “Maybe working on homework together is a bad idea. You’re too much of a distraction,” she teased, scooting closer to Quinn on the floor. Even though she realized that at the moment, she was doing a decent job of being a distraction herself.
“I was distracting? You were the one sitting there all cute and sort of muttering and I couldn’t concentrate...” Quinn said as she turned slightly to look at Tina. “But I agree. I don’t think doing homework together is the best use of our time.”
Tina squinched her eyes shut, embarrassed. So she had been doing it. “I guess we have to wait until we get to the point where we don’t want to jump all over each other whenever we’re together.” But since that time was clearly not now, she closed her books and placed a random kiss on Quinn’s shoulder. “So, wanna go upstairs?”
“Now that is a good use of time,” Quinn said smirking then stood up and offered a hand down to Tina. She knew she probably had to leave for dinner in an hour or so but for the time being, this was definitely the best option. And it wasn’t like her mom would ground her for doing her homework at a friend’s house. It would all work out perfectly.
