It's time for some good political debate. I pose some discussion questions, and I will answer them ( Read more... )

i love john kerry with all my heart. i'll dish it all out to you when you come to vermont, but after time and research, i have every confidence that he's our man.

and mike, he's a liberal. not a conservative. liberal. not conservative. thats pretty much universally accepted; look at his record. environmentalist, against war in vietnam, against war in iraq, was a supporter and activist for john & ted kennedy, is pro-choice, is pro gay civil unions, is pro (almost universal) health care, pro education, pro finding an alternative to oil, pro not having the world hate us, etc etc etc.

Those things are all good, and associated with the more liberal people in our governments and such, but I think Mike is right. Kerry is relatively liberal, in comparison to the far right extremist governemnt we have now. He is better than Bush, and I would much rather vote for him (damn my parents, why couldn't they have got it on 5 months earlier) than Bush, but he is by no means perfect. He is a step in the right direction however (in my opinion), though I agree with alot of what Mike said.

yea, I'd agree with Sam here that Kerry is a relatively liberal candidate. He uh- is pro sending 80,000 troops to Iraq, which I think is a pretty conservative, he's pro death penalty which is pretty conservative, ::sigh:: believes in the no child left behind act, actually somewhat OPPOSES universal healthcare and isn't entirely sure about rolling back the rich tax cuts, but for every conservative oppinion he has he has at least two more liberal ones and plus- I don't really think that its a bad thing to have a semi-conservative candidate as the democratic nominee, like mike said- sometimes the best is the enemy of the acceptable and it's the only way that we're going to get Bush out of office. This isn't the time for wild experimentation and idealistic promises- this is the time for strategy, and this is the time for attempting to restore democracy in the us and faith in the rest of the world.

This is a very big election.
It's worth it to pay attention.

as a centrist with some conservative leanings, I support kerry enthusiastically. I think that bush has made a massive cock-up of this country, both domestically and with regard to foreign policy. I think kerry is a good man, if not the best man, for the job.

if bush wins, i am putting in for a transfer to the U of Barcelona. fuck america if the PWT are stupid enough to reelect him

I agree with the people that have spoken, and your view as well, and as you may know, I have some conservative viewpoints. But what I'm worried about is Kerry's alleged "swinging" between votes. I think there's a website, maybe it's www.kerryoniraq.com that shows him swinging from one opinion to another...that could just seem a bit wishy washy.

I'm kinda in between mike and other thing. In my opinion, the entire political system is entirely depressing, because even if kerry and edwards were so liberal, they don't let it show. What almost every politician does is stick themselves into some kind of grey area, because they're scared of losing voters ( ... )
