My grey Volvo may be dead. Apparently, the brakes and a whole tangle of wiring is corroded, and repairs cost more than an 89 Volvo sedan is worth. The local public radio station is interested in taking it for auction, so it might provide me with a nice little tax deduction as a farewell gift, but it's likely that it will soon leave our little ( Read more... )

ME (in e-mail to Plum's former owner): I was just about to put some banana bread in the oven, and ended up dropping the pan of banana batter because Plum was poised to jump into the oven. I clanged the pan down onto the top of the stove with a thankfully small batter-splash and shooed him away before he became an entree on tonight's menu. Whew!

The winner at the 2004 American Cheese Society conference in Milwaukee was Gran Canaria, a cheese made from a blend of cow, goat, and sheep's milk. All of the animals are grass-fed (which generally means more flavor in the milk, and thus, in cheeses made from the milk) in Wisconsin's Carr Valley.
