They say that autumn is the time for eating in Japan. Just today I walked into the classroom I clean at the end of every day to discover a couple of pounds of sweet potatoes lying on the floor on sheets of newspaper, just inside the door. Last Sunday some friends and I drove out to Hase (up in the mountains) to see how the leaves have begun to change color. It's something we can enjoy in autumn, you know. The mountains in Nagano are incredibly lush, as you can see.

Prune King Revisited
There are definitely some problems with the Japanese school system: For example, the fact that learning English is mandatory for all kids grades 7th - 12th, simply because it’s on college entrance exams. The fact that kids can pass these exams without being able to speak a word of English is also irritating. The way teachers tolerate students ( Read more... ) -
