Should I end up going to Tokyo on a more permanent-like basis, there are some things I'm going to miss about the spot I'm living now. I went to Kendo last night. I don't go as often as I should. This accounts for some of my frustration at not feeling very proficient with it. I just find it very limited and restrictive in many ways. A more elegant weapon from a more civilized age
So I've been keeping up with the lightsaber practice. I found that picking up a toy lightsaber and swinging it around was good for my shoulder after the shoulder surgery- it worked the range of motion in several directions and helped strengthen it a little bit, too, so I spent 10 minutes or so after working through martial arts kata on my own ( Read more... ) -
Some odds, some ends
I've gone skiing on both of the last 2 Thursdays. This is my 3rd winter living and working in a ski resort, and marks the first (2) times I've been skiing since I moved here. Got a bit of a shock this morning when I popped online. There was a message waiting for me to let me know my parent's house burned down. I'm halfway around the world (well, 1/3 of the way), so with time zone differences and such, I found out about 20 hours after it started. Winter has seemed to stretch on forever, and though the daylight hours are starting to get longer again, it still seems like they only last for about 15 minutes, and most of that is spent under dark snow clouds and white-out conditions. The rules are changing
I used to have one steadfast rule that I always followed: always bring a book. Whether it was to the doctor's office, car trip, just down to the grocery store (ok, I'd leave it in the car), I used to always have something to read because you just never knew when you were going to be stuck somewhere with no other ways to pass the time. Dog gone.
I was dog sitting for a friend who was out of town again recently. He was gone for an extended period, so for about 2 and a half months or so, I had 2 dogs in the house.
Nana and Woodley are very familiar with each other- the dog sitting when out of town has gone both ways several times now. They're half-way to being pack members, I think. Woodley ( Read more... )
