Welcome to the spn_littlebro newsletter #33 for October 2013!
How about our most amazing new spn_littlebro header by petite-madame? Her art has often been rec'd in this community, and anyone can see why when you wallow in this header: vivid colors, Sam in his Pearl Jam T-shirt, bruised and bandaged, but the look on his face (under that shaggy fall of hair) tells you he's focused on something other than his injuries. Honestly, it makes you want to go visit spn_littlebro more often now, doesn't it? Just to linger over that header!
We'd like to thank everyone who participated in the contest: artists and voters. The entries were so fantastic, we've asked the runner-up if we can use hers specifically for our newsletter starting next month, and we're thrilled that shalia74 said yes. We are so pleased to be able to gaze on these extraordinary works all the time now!
On top of all that? We've got season 8 DVDs out, and now the return of our show with season 9. Woo hoo! Kinda makes you wanna dance, doesn't it!

Who's Hurting Sam or Jared Lately?
- harrigan says sometimes you just want something light and cheerful... which is always made better with a little mild orthopedic trauma. "I never expected to find that at salt_burn_porn, though!" Something New by locknkey is a 4K high school J2AU, described as Jared thinks he doesn't measure up. Jensen shows him he's wrong. A little basketball ankle sprain makes this hot first-time fic all the more fun!
- cherry916 is always on the alert for J2AU h/c, and currently she's enjoying a WIP called Hexagon Ring by maaldas. Summary: Omega!Jared is kidnapped by an underground ring with weekly shows where they tie down an omega in the center of an arena, then set out three or more alphas who fight to knot the omega for the entertainment of the audience. The winner can either claim a cash prize or keep the omega. Cherry says, "This is an ongoing story that just sucks you in. She's very masterful at creating suspense and ideas that are realistic and make sense. Omega!Jared was kidnapped by an underground ring and through that he and Jensen mate. The big deciding factor here is that Jensen is actually an undercover cop... There are many mysteries; the story is always being updated and you'll be sucked into the suspense as you read!" But she adds, "Please be aware of the warnings/kinks the author lists." And note that the masterpost header art is NSFW.
- ayane42 is reccing Bobbing for Apples by Little-Boy-of-Lothering, because "This story starts out when Sam is young and continues all the way through the trials. There are little snapshots of nightmares of future events (causing Sam to not want to eat) as well as demonstrations of his powers and the effects this has on his family and Jessica. The overall feeling of helplessness and angst is just wonderful!!" It has nightmares, eating disorder, seizures, angst, powers, and runs about 13K. Summary: Dean isn't sure if he's failing at being a brother, a parent, or both. Jessica and Bobby just want to help, but Castiel can't and John doesn't even know where to start. It might've been easier if Azazel wasn't such a jerk. Part of the Remove All the Pieces series.
- harrigan read Siberia by kettle-o-fish this month, and says if you've seen 9.01 and are in the mood for some really heartbreaking wincest, this is beautifully written. (We'll omit the summary in case some reading this are still spoiler-free.)
- ash48 has a 24K SPN gen fic to rec this month: Stainless and Honorable Lives by scullspeare. Summary: Murders in two separate cities draw the brothers into a case that has Sam teaming with someone he never thought he’d meet, and Dean fighting for his life in a way he never imagined. Ash says, "This is an excellent casefic that combines the Winchesters fighting alongside the Knights of the Table Round. Great h/c and brother moments." Sam endures gun shot, kidnapping (sort of), cauterizing... and Dean doesn't escape unscathed either.

- Don't forget, ohsam has a wonderfully innovative challenge underway here. There's no deadline, and it's a Triple Play: you can leave simple hurt!Sam prompts, create art to fill prompts, or write fic to complement the art. Or vice versa! The link includes a masterlist of the creations so far.

- The Eyes Are Blind by reapertownusa is this month's SPN gen featured fic rec'd by ayane42. Summary: John is sure there’s something wrong with Sam, declaring his youngest son the target and leaving Dean to choose between his dad and brother. It's preseries with angst, bruises and restraints; 6-7K and ayane42 says it's "just a great story about Sam and Dean's relationship while worrying about John's insistence that Sam isn't his son."
- For SPN slash, ayane42 would like to rec Hold On Until Dawn, a multi-chapter fic described as AU after the events of Devil's Trap (1x22). The Winchesters have unfinished business in the town of Pike Creek, Delaware. Will Dean find, just as Sam did when he was sixteen, that the supernatural isn’t the only horrifying things that stir in the coldest hours just before the dawn? Heed the warnings on this one: there's abuse, non-con and some underage. ayane42 says, "This story (by jcrgirl and imogen_lily) is one of those Wincest stories that I just really get into. I don't normally read Wincest, and I remember as I started seeing the chapters pop up on my friends' list I figured as it got closer to the end I would give it a try. And omg!! I'm so glad I did! The thing that got to me most about this was the raw amount of pain and angst that Sam had to endure, as a teenager and as an adult coming back to the town. Argh!! Seriously, it is sooo good!! The authors did a fabulous job. Very compelling, I couldn't stop reading!!"
- In the mood for a multi-chapter SPN gen h/c extravaganza from back in 2006? cherry916 recs the 110K+ epic Entity by Carikube. Summary: Sam’s visions spiral out of control when he is psychically connected to a girl who uses pain to ensure cooperation. Dean struggles to protect his brother, while Sam must find strength within if he is to survive. Cherry says, "This is a long and juicy read that features Sam's visions at the forefront, and a mysterious girl that seems to be linked to Sam's visions. Carikube is very masterful at wordplay and imagery. You won't regret diving into this long read."

- podfics: Podfic for Will you Serve 'verse is now available! This 'verse by rainylemons has been much lauded at spn_littlebro but now ayane42 is excited to report a podfic for all 7 installments, available in MP3 and podbook, read by eosrose.
- eBooks, etc.: harrigan has been been reading SPN fanfic since season 1, and one of the early writers whose talent really sucked her in is maygra. Maygra doesn't seem to write SPN any more, so newer fans may never have discovered what a gift she has been to fandom. She's written SPN gen and slash, and most of her longer works can be found in several eReader formats on EBook Library: fan fiction on the Run. Her stories are found here, and the website will give you summaries, pairings, word counts, etc.

- [parting ways]: Parting Ways by hopeintheashes. Sam leaving for Stanford is a perfect fit for this prompt! Features Sam, Dean, John, Jess, and a little bit of Pastor Jim, in @ 2500 words.
- [scars]: Sam Winchester - Scars by ash48 is a music video fill that will take your breath away! As one of our mods said, "It's emotionally devastating as show often is, but she's woven some gorgeous images with her magical talent into a beautiful vid. Excellent work and I know this is going to be a Sam standard for a long time to come."
