Phone call out of the blue from my Dad. My uncle Edwin has died suddenly - an aneurism, apparently. That's all we know.

I last saw him on the occasion of my paternal Grandfather's funeral, nearly two years ago. I wasn't particularly close to him, but right now I'm just feeling shocked. It feels a little unreal.

Doctor says I have a trapped nerve, which may or may not be related to the pulled muscle in my back. For the latter I've been given some exercises to do to strengthen my neck muscles, but that aside it is a matter of patience and painkillers. So I'm on time-release ibuprofen for a little while. Wheeee ...

So, one for the "cute but urgh..." files. Kit likes his cuddles, but he's decided that an integral part of a cuddle is a kiss, which is delivered by sort of head-butting you in the mouth with his part-open mouth. So. My warmest congratulations to Rosemary and Ralph, whose wedding I had the honour to attend yesterday. It was one of the most relaxed and informal weddings I've been to, and everyone had a wonderful time - particularly the bride and groom :)

Right. Packed, checked out, and I'm waiting for my ride to the airport. With luck I'll be back at home in 20 hours or so.

It's been interesting but I'm really looking forward to being back home.

The soap dispensers in the restrooms at my employer's US office dispense soap that smells exactly like Battenberg cake. It is a nice smell, to be sure, but it does lead to moments of cognitive dissonance ...

Whee. I've arrived safely in San Francisco, and wonderfully my phone works here well enough for me to internet with it, although it is glacial. And probably expensive, relatively. Still, it is cool ( Read more... )
