I ain't no damn hero....

So I have been fighting for a while now, and I can sense that things are clicking in. It can be interesting to see a difference in how you see or do something from the beginning of the day to the end. Sort of like leveling up on a video game, you realize that a+b=c, then comes (a+b)c=2d. That is all well and good, and then you find you have to ( Read more... )

For me, I can say that it is way harder to not give up, than to lay back. I equate laying back with giving up/in. It is not easy for me to be average, I have to fight to be there. Just putting on armour is a hard process, as I do not bend as well as I used to, which was not well, pre-stroke. I may have to work twice as hard, maybe more, to achieve what others take for granted. Still, no damn hero, though.

Well said and true, but its harder sometimes to say "I admire you"

and in some way by making you seem superhuman they are thinking I am not that so it wont happen to me. that whole never getting more than we can handle nonsense.

You are to be congratulated and encourage though and let folks do that much.

I do. Just don't call me the h word. I can handle people being impressed, hell, it impresses me, and I am the one living it. For every step forward, I have to also take at least one more to make sure I stay put at the level I started at.

Hero is an overused word in our culture and on a personal note, I twitch when I have been called such. It probably bothers me for many of the same reasons it bothers you, but I digress.

A better phrasing people should use is that they aspire to be like you. That should this happen to them, they hope to have your determination and be able to overcome as you did because they fear they will, or would not.

Sometimes I find it hard to get out of bed. I do it because Acceo Sammich doesn't work, no matter how hard I try. I push myself to go forward, because to do otherwise would leave me wanting.

So you're not a hero. Big woop.

What you are is a man with a reason to fight back and live life. You've got a wife and an awful lot of friends who would lose a lot with a Pat-sized hole in their lives.

In fact, you're a lot like my Dad who decided that fighting back to live life after a stroke was the best thing for him and for others.

So there.

Hey, I did not say what I did is not shy of miraculous, just that it took large amounts of work, and will probably for the rest of my (hopefully long) life. Hard work does not make one a hero, though, just determined.
Love you too, bro.
