So on Friday I made it to work a little after 7:30, the earliest I have so far. And then, after an hour, the power went out. Apparently a truck crashed into something nearby and took out power to the block. I've been suffering from an extremely aggravating affliction of sorts this past week. Each morning I try to get up at 5 so that I can make it work early and leave while it's still light out. Before I forget, there was also a cool review of the four major 70s "pop" releases of Brian Eno on NPR last week. So instead of writing essays for the NSF fellowship, for the last 20-odd minutes I've been reading about algebraic geometry in Dummit and Foote (I'm on the Zariski topology right now) while listening to Radiohead. I'm not sure I could think of a more satisfying way to spend a Monday night.

The last couple weeks have been something of a musical flurry, it seems. I went down to San Diego with Mikey and Madineh just before Halloween to see Interpol, and on Wednesday I ventured down again with Steve for Trail of Dead. I really miss this summer. I miss the carefree, bouncy swagger of Franz Ferdinand in the afternoon, I miss meeting fun, new people, I miss the glimmer in the eye, and most of all I miss the chance for something new. Summer's gut busted open and razors of hope flew out like butterflies, but now...what happened?

Tonight was so quintessentially fall break, it almost hurt. We got our first big rain of the year, so right from the start that contributed greatly to the ambience.
