When all the froglets had fully developed front legs and some had lost most of their tails, I decided it was time to do a tank conversion. They couldn't figure out how to use the ruler, but a plastic lid, exactly the width of the tank, wedged in just at the waterline did the trick temporarily ( Read more... )

Over the last day or two about half the tadpoles have suddenly grown front legs! They look at lot more like frogs now, rather than just vaguely frog-reminiscent blobs with no arms.

The tank was getting way too crowded now that the tadpoles have become huge and hyperactive, so I cut the numbers from 30-odd down to 12, the rest of them going back to the pond ( Read more... )

Most of my half-a-k of tadpoles have now been released back into the great wilds from whence they came. I kept about 30 or so, mostly the biggest ones I could get but also a couple of small ones as I thought it'd be interesting to see how they develop ( Read more... )
