character relationships.

AMESTRIS | DEATH CITY RESIDENTS & SHIBUSEN FACULTY STAFF | FAMILY | THE WATCH | OTHER GUESTS

previous page

the watch ☈ DOGS. (continued)

Another grizzled veteran signing up to do what he can in Death City. Seeing Auron did make Roy wonder if BREW was attempting to dig up every tired, old soldier out in the multiverses to fight the war for it. He wouldn't put it past the machine to do that at all.

Auron apparently served as a 'guardian' to Yuna on her journey, but something about the man's attitude seems to imply that he thinks of her as more than just somebody that he's supposed to protect. Roy hasn't had the opportunity to ask him about it yet, though.

AURON (★) ☇ SOUL ARMOR

The self-advertisment was kind of cute, and after the stunt that Masaru pulled in order to get into the Watch, Roy wasn't too surprised to see somebody else do something similar.

Roy has privately resolved that one day? He needs to sit down with Yuffie and have her tell him all about Vincent's quirkier habits and other fun factoids. It would make for good ammunition.

KISARAGI YUFFIE (★) ☇ SOUL CLOAK

He's not about to admit this to anyone, but Roy was ridiculously pleased over Jade's application - she had come into the Watch when the organization happened to need gunners, and she seemed to know what she was talking about.

Still, nothing is going to change the fact that she's only thirteen, and Roy wants to keep the kids out of the war as much as he can. She did good with the Vriska operation, but the fact that she didn't get out of it unscathed hasn't escaped him.

It would not hurt, though, to get her to know a few more of the firearm Weapons that he has on board perhaps...

JADE HARLEY, MEISTER (★) ☇ COLORFULLY REMINDED SOUL

Someone from Rokudo Mukuro's world, and an... associate, it seems, of Squalo's. He also mentioned something about being prone to madness, and having a very interesting skill set.

At this point, Roy's not too sure if he should be worried or calling the authorities. Thankfully, Belphegor hasn't done anything questionable.

Yet.

BELPHEGOR, MEISTER (★) ☇ INSANE SOUL

Not much to say about this one just yet - the one time they have spoken was when Wolfram signed up for the Watch, and he was quiet all the way up to his disappearance.

Pity, really: Roy wanted to know exactly how and why he's 82 when he barely looked a day over eighteen!

WOLFRAM VON BIELEFIELD, MEISTER (★) (returned) ☇ SCORCHING SOUL

Another person from Hi-no-Moto - she arrived with the second batch, and is still (very obviously) the only woman in the group. Seems rather serious, especially in comparison to the last Hi-no-Moto ninja that came knocking around about the Watch...

KASUGA, WEAPON ☇ NINJA-TO

A good kid with a good head on his shoulders - Allen was among the first wave of folks who greeted Roy when he was fresh from his arrival in Death City, and the boy's occasional expression of concern for him was always surprising in the past. Of course, their relationship did not just stay on the level of pleasantries: they talked on many occasions and on a broad range of topics, with the foremost being Shibusen and the war. Their differences in vision and the occasional stubborn refusal to accept help and support when it was being given led to a few disagreements, but strangely? Such conflict only served to deepen their relationship.

There were times when Allen actually felt like the wiser one between them, but Roy did not find this intimidating at all - he was happy, in fact, to have someone whom he could go to in case he needed a sensible word or a smack to the face. As such, Allen's disappearance did cause him some grief. Seeing the boy recently returned to Death City, then, was... interesting. Unsurprisingly, this Allen was taken from a different period in time, it seemed, and therefore did not share any of Roy's memories of Death City, or their previous correspondence.

For Roy, though, friendship doesn't end just because one party isn't quite the way you remember them being, or has no recollection of ever being your friend in the first place. Allen is still someone Roy holds in high regard, and - should they ever manage to get close again - perhaps he can defer to the young man, once again, for advice and ideas.

ALLEN WALKER, WEAPON ☇ TRIDENT DAGGER

With the way people drift in and out of Death City, and with the rate that new posts go up on DEMISE at an almost hourly rate per day, it should come as no surprise that most folks are a wash of familiar voices, faces or keywords to the average viewer. Lloyd, though, stuck with Roy because of his enthusiasm, and dogged refusal to believe that he couldn't wield two Weapons without difficulty.

Having him on the Watch will probably be an interesting experience.

LLOYD IRVING, MEISTER (★) ☇ SOUL ADRENALINE

If Roy had been any less of a man, he might have had his... doubts about this one on the fly, and they wouldn't have been completely unfounded. Strong women in the service were a staple back in Amestris, though, and while he's always been one to appreciate a fair face, Roy's never been in the habit of devaluing a girl's potential just because she's pretty

Strip seems to carry herself sensibly enough, and newcomers who almost immediately sign up to share their skills and expertise with the Watch always leave Roy in good spirits. That she's a superhero with experience in certain, ah, areas has also left Roy considering approaching her for some interesting business propositions in the future.

Of the non-sexual kind, of course.

EROTICA JONES (STRIPERELLA), MEISTER (★) ☇ SOUL FLASH

While he's one to believe that impeccable spelling and grammar are overrated, Leon's application to the Watch had left much to be desired. Still, he was a policeman in his world, and Roy's experience with those types have been stellar so far. He's willing to see what this one can do.

Oh, and he's a gunner. That is always a plus.

LEON ORCOT, MEISTER (★) ☇ SOUL DETERMINATION

Another swashbuckling sort, it seems, complete with accent, attitude and shameless admission to previous crimes done on the high seas/high skies/wherever. Still, nothing has happened, and Roy isn't one to punish people for their previous crimes unless they give him just reason to.

He does hope, though, that he won't have to keep an eye on this one.

FARIS SCHERWIZ, MEISTER (★) ☇ SEISMIC SOUL

Nice girl, it seems: a bit on the quiet side, but it's the sort of quiet that comes with a bit too much experience on the battlefield for one of her age. That Roy's used to seeing kids fighting wars doesn't make it any better for him, though.

AQUA, MEISTER (★) ☇ SOUL LEVITATE

Roy's headache with this one started early: she's apparently form the same world as Dante and Vergil, and living evidence of some of the darker things that Vergil has done prior to his entrance in Death City. If that shared past wasn't bad enough, there was also the fact that the animosity the pair had for each other was phenomenal. Understandable, yes, but definitely not the sort of thing that the Watch needed in their group.

As with most situations of this sort, Roy isn't about to take sides. He is fond of Vergil, yes, and does consider the younger man his friend, but Lady, for all her smoke and fire, does not strike him as the sort who could be capable of deceiving people and making false accusations of such gravity against anyone. For the moment, she's on the team, and Roy has decided to just see how things will go.

Lady and Winry have apparently become acquainted, and helped each other stay on top of things during a recent raid on Death City. Roy feels like he owes Lady one, for watching out for the girl. Also, she does seem like the sort of weapon that Winry could wield with frightening skill...

LADY, WEAPON ☇ KALINA ANN

Another enthusiastic newcomer with an interesting application to offer (seriously: paper powers?). She doesn't seem like the sort of person who could pick up the nearest weapon and fight well at the drop of the hat, but looks are always deceiving.

MICHELLE CHEUNG, MEISTER (★) ☇ SOUL ANIMATE

With her looks and brisk professionalism, Naomi was, for all intensive purposes, a breath of fresh air to Roy before, when he had still been very occupied with finding as many answers to the mysteries of Death City and Shibusen's own actions as much as possible. They had many professional correspondences with bits of banter in between, and, with some wheedling, Roy managed to convince Naomi to help him out with the Watch when it was established.

It's clear that Naomi has an interesting past with stories to tell, but Roy isn't about to pry. Something tells him that that's exactly how Naomi likes things.

NAOMI KIRISHIMA, MEISTER (★) ☇ SOUL BANDAID

Naomi's partner, who graciously agreed to lend his abilities to the Watch. Roy still isn't sure why the kid's hanging out with Naomi or how they ended up partnering up, but it probably doesn't matter.

Most of what Roy knows about Brock is second-hand and by association: Brock is a good friend of Ash Ketchum, who, once upon a time, very close to a girl named Laura Kinney. Laura had been partners with Armstrong the first time the Major was in Death City, and the man's disappearance had left Roy with the responsibility of caring for the girl. When she vanished, however, Roy soon fell out of touch with Ash

He'll probably check in on the kid again soon, though, and preferably with Brock in tow.

BROCK, WEAPON ☇ SUPER POTION

An ex-military surgeon, and one of the "older" guests in Death City - from how it looks, he had been around, taking afternoon tea with friends and being incredibly pleasant to patients long before Roy ever arrived. A decent chap, and a gentleman of rare breeding; they're not especially close yet, but Roy feels comfortable enough around this one.

Watson was recently kidnapped and experimented upon by the Witches. He doesn't speak of his ordeal, and Roy doesn't expect him to. The Meister is, however, inclined to feel as though perhaps the man should, if only to expel some of the demons plaguing his thoughts.

JOHN WATSON, WEAPON ☇ SWORD CANE

Another returnee - he's been in Death City a total number of four times now, which must be testament to the great amount of strength and potential he possesses. He and Roy had a... professional agreement before, although back then, Hibari had been older. The boy he's dealing with now is much more raw and volatile.

Still, prickly and bloodthirsty as Hibari is, Roy's pretty sure he's a good kid. He also knows how to push his buttons, which makes everything else easy. Having him on the Watch is good too: he could use a fighter, and a watchdog for people like Belphegor.

-- That was the plan, anyway, but BREW appears to have had second thoughts about keeping the boy around yet again.

HIBARI KYOUYA, WEAPON (returned) ☇ CAMBIO FORMA TONFA

To say that they had hit it off instantly would be an understatement, although Roy is almost certain that Lightning DOESN'T want to think of it that way at all. He had felt compelled to speak to her straight the first time - he knew a good soldier when he saw one. And good soldiers only needed to be told the facts, stripped of any emotion, in order to be able to assess and respond accordingly. They also ended up talking a lot more than he had originally expected them to, which was a pleasant surprise... her later offer to help him surprised him even more. It wasn't too long before they ended up becoming friends.

Light actually reminded Roy of Riza. She was a good woman: that much he became certain of upon seeing how there was every opportunity for her to press him for details or badger him about his personal life, and she deliberately ignored each one. But good women have the tendency to lock up when they shouldn't, and follow when they need to step back and keep themselves safe. He can only hope that should she ever get herself in trouble, she'll have the skill to pull herself out of it.

He had hoped that she would be able to swallow enough of her pride and ask for his help when she needed it. Suffice to say, she didn't. That might be the reason why BREW ended up taking her back home.

LIGHTNING FARRON, MEISTER (★) (returned) ☇ SOUL LEADER

Another outsider with a questionable past, at best. Still, even with the obvious evasions whenever the topic of personal history came up, Roy found himself liking this one when he was around.

Ezio did good work with the Watch, and was always willing to go the extra mile when he was asked. Roy had hoped to get to know the man even better than he already did through their exchanges in the future, but perhaps it just wasn't meant to happen.

EZIO AUDITORE, MEISTER (★) (returned) ☇ SOUL CLOAK

Amusing, loud, but overall? Harmless.

...Okay, he'll admit it: it was hella fucking fun to poke at Squalo. It was kind of like taking a jab at Fullmetal, only without the short jokes. Roy's also amused that from being Public Enemy Number One on Squalo's list, they appear to have become - heaven forbid - friends. And by flirting publicly on the network, no less.

Losing this one was a real shame. Roy had a feeling that they had a lot more in common than Squalo would have liked to believe, which was probably why they were constantly at each other's throats (or, well, why Squalo was trying to tear his out). Soldiers who believe themselves to be human weapons had the tendency to be suspicious of each other, after all.

SQUALO SUPERBI, WEAPON ☇ SWORD & BUCKLER

A decent man, this one, and a decorated general back in his world if the history books were to be believed. Roy instantly liked Washington the first time they met, and treats the man with respect. It's clear that the other is having some difficulty adjusting to their life in Death City, which only made Roy want to help him out even more.

Washington served the Watch well while he was around, and the few times Roy managed to sit down and talk with the man had been well worth it - they had shared drinks and tales from their respective battlefields, exchanging notes and reminiscing on the past. Part of him wishes that Washington will return someday, but he knows that the man has bigger things to accomplish elsewhere.

GEORGE WASHINGTON, MEISTER (★) (returned) ☇ SOUL LEADER

Roy and Shouta managed to get very acquainted with each other on the get-go. For one, Shouta immediately signed up to help out with the Watch in spite of the fact that he had only just landed at Death City; for another, the younger man had distinguished himself by apprehending a criminal within days of his arrival. Both of those things earned instant respect from Roy, of course.

Roy managed to find a sort of kindred spirit in Shouta while the latter was around - they never sat down and spoke of their personal lives, but perhaps they didn't need to.

SHOUTA MIKOSHIBA, MEISTER (★) (returned) ☇ CLAIRVOYANCE

They didn't get off on a good start, actually - Celty met Roy when Roy was preoccupied with Knowing Everything whether people liked it or not, and Roy met Celty when Celty wanted nothing more than to hide particular thins about herself. They are, however, on much better terms - one might even go so far as to call them close. Her brief disappearance was a blow to him; Roy's happy to have her back.

On another note, people who know the value of silence and brevity are a rarity. For that, he's got to salute you, Celty.

CELTY STURLSON, WEAPON ☇ MOTORBIKE

Kurt Hummel's partner, and someone who vaguely reminds Roy of Soul Eater Evans, one of the Weapons native to Death City. Kurt probably won't be joining the Watch, but Roy is pretty sure that Dave can take care of himself.

This application seemed to come out of nowhere - or did it? Dave comes from the same world as John Egbert, Jade Harley, Karkat and the rest. He also suddenly turned up and showed interest in the Watch, something that isvery different from the stuff he posted about the network before. Interestingly, it coincided with Jade's momentary disappearance.

Roy's not asking questions yet, but he IS curious.

DAVE STRIDER, WEAPON ☇ TURNTABLE SWORD

An incredibly serious chap who was quite unhappy about being brought into Death City, and for good reason - that much Roy discovered for himself, when they got to talk. The guy's been quiet since he joined up.

NAGO KEISUKE, MEISTER (★) ☇ SOUL ADRENALINE

Itachi's partner - a strange arrangement from what Roy can see, given the fact that Itachi is Sasuke's brother, and Sasuke and Naruto are... an interesting pair. This one reminded Roy of Edward Elric on the get-go, and it was probably because of the hair, the spirit and the cheekiness. He's also decided to join the Watch, after a long period of deliberation. Overall, Roy's glad to have the kid on board.

Their relationship was pretty simple to Roy in the beginning: they trained on a regular basis before Naruto's brief disappearance (he was one of the kidnap victims that the people of Death City and Shibusen had to rescue), and that was that. Naruto, however, seems hell bent on checking up on him and bugging him for no real reason beyond being concerned for Roy. The Meister's done his best to fend him off, but Naruto's eerily perceptive, and incredibly persistent.

UZUMAKI NARUTO, MEISTER (★) ☇ FERAL SOUL

Someone from Date's world - a recent arrival, and a soldier on a totally different level from the others in terms of attitude from what he can see. Motochika seems to know her, however, and Roy does like what he sees of this one so far.

MAGOICHI SAICA, MEISTER (★) ☇ SOUL LEADER

One of the "senior" guests in Death City who arrived just a few cycles after Roy - he knew her even before the Watch was ever established, which is saying a lot. She's only recently stepped up to join, though.

JEANNE D'ARC, WEAPON ☇ MEDIEVAL LONGSWORD

A nice enough girl, from the looks of it - a friend to Lelouch and Suzaku too. She's recently volunteered to work at the DOGS office, which Roy's happy for. They've been in need of somebody to clean up and help out with the paperwork lately.

On another note, there's always been something off, though, about the way Shirley, Suzaku and Lelouch deal with each other. Whether Roy ought to get to the bottom of it or not, though, is yet to be seen.

SHIRLEY FENETTE, WEAPON ☇ VIKING SHIELD
