Yesterday I volunteered in Aislin's classroom. Or rather I should say I volunteered FOR her classroom, I didn't actually spend much time in the class but rather did a bunch of prep work and filing for her teacher. That's OK, it needs to be done. I just did my expenses with my fancy (yet free) iPhone App. I guess the idea of having an iPhone app is that you can enter the expenses on the fly rather than waiting six months and having to go back through your bank statements and figure out what's what. I can't believe how well Aislin's doing in Kindergarten. No, I actually I can. She thrives in that element. Every day she comes home with a new song, a new concept, or a new idea. But if you ask her "what did you learn in school today?" she will say "I don't know." Apparently there is a "feeling center" at school which I gather is a sort of Time ( Read more... )

So, my first Public School workshop was today. I had nearly 30 people there and came home with an envelope with $350 in it!! I haven't exactly broken even on this deal yet because I had to pay for the room and the coffee and the folders with copies in them. We are doing Mommy Homework today. No fun.

Aislin has a freakin' book report due this week. They call it a Tic-Tac-Toe book report based on the Multiple Intelligences of Howard Gardner. That part I respect. I think I've mentioned before that the Chicago Public School system is a gigantic beauracacy (can't spell it) and that it requires a part-time job to figure out how/when/where to apply. So we have now arrived at the end of Kindergarten: Week Two. I think Aislin likes it. She made a card for her teacher yesterday which read "Dear Ms. Bigelow thank you for inviting me to Skinner North." And today's card says "Dear Ms. Bigelow I like Skinner North a lot!!"
