We finally get a nice spring day, sans floodwaters. I'm headed out to enjoy it. :)

I decided to indulge myself a bit, and went to the grand opening of the Fargo library this afternoon. Their collection includes the Shogun DVDs. ^_^ \/

Now it's the Sheyenne River's turn to flood. Valley City, which is about an hour west of here, is hanging on by their fingernails. They've had two significant dike breaches, and more yet to come. With all this snow melting away, we've been expecting a second crest on the Red River. This one should be between 38 and 40 feet, according to the National Weather Service, and we can expect it on or about April 18, which is the anniversary of the Grand Forks Flood of '97. This evening I was reading up on Winnipeg's flood protection scheme, the better to evaluate protection schemes for Fargo. Duff's Ditch has done a spectacular job of protecting Winnipeg from major flooding since it was completed in March 1968 ( Read more... )

I finally managed to escape the snowdrift's clutches later this morning, and got to work just in time to learn that we were operating in hazardous weather mode. Fifteen inches of snow fell over the last two days. Ah, well. At least I will be paid double time for my efforts this afternoon. :D ( Read more... )

The snowbank in front of my garage is deep enough that I don't think I'm going anywhere for a while. Hopefully my landlord will clear out the parking lot soon. In the meantime . . .
