Thanks to the storm-generated waves, we need to secure the sandbag levees with plastic tarps. But we also have to secure the tarps.
The solution? Take a potato, wrap it loosely in the tarp, take some string and loop it around tarp and potato, and then tie the other end to a sandbag. Voila. :P
Oak Grove Lutheran School in north Fargo has had a breach in their levee. The breach has been contained, but it sounds like two of their buildings have been damaged, and residents in that area have been advised to plug their drains.
I anticipate more such breaches as the week continues--I hope that we can continue to see and respond to them
. . . floods, thunderstorms, torrential rains, hail, blizzards . . . when do we see the fire from the sky and the river turning red? I imagine that the frogs and locusts are frozen solid somewhere with an expression of "What just happened?" on their faces.
Someone's been fingering that "Smite" button again.
It's been melting all weekend here, and the overland flooding has begun. Street drains are frozen shut, so our streets are drainage ditches. And the river has begun rising. Stay tuned...
Monday and Tuesday had a total snowfall of about ten inches. Parts of town are still digging out, though they finally decided to sic payloaders on the really big drifts. Some of them were easily ten feet tall
