For the past few years, I have not been listening to much contemporary music. When in NM, I started exploring afro-cuban jazz, Latin pop, and Mexican rock. Since moving to Chicago, I have mainly been listening to a radio station that plays classic jazz, blues, and folk. None of it from this year.
But I tend to go to Borders once a week. And every now and then, I will hear something there that catches my ear. That's how I got the latest Sara Bareilles CD. Same with the new Santana CD (although admittedly, I would have picked it up anyway when I eventually saw it.)
This past spring, I heard the first CD from the new Natalie Merchant two disc set "Leave Your Sleep." As soon as I heard this song, I knew that I was going to buy the collection. Every song is an adaptation of a poem. Every song is done in a different style. I love the concept, and I adore this song!
The slide guitar. The chattering men at the beginning and end. The sound of her voice. I can imagine sharing this with my grandparents, and that brings a bit of a glow to my heart.
