Chapter 5

Clark moved steadilly up the rope, his feet found little purchase on the jagged rocks before him, so instead he relied utterly on his upper body strength.

The black haired swordsman leaned over and glanced down at the long tail of rope below them, wisps of his curled bangs hanging in his eyes. "He's climbing the rope. And he's gaining on us."

Nigma looked a bit startled at this. "Inconcievable!" He shot a glance at Clark "FASTER!"

"I thought I was going faster." Clark protested.

"YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE THIS COLOSSUS, YOU WERE THIS GREAT LEGENDARY SUPERMAN, AND YET HE GAINS!" Nigma howled.

"Well, I'm carrying three people, and he's got only himself," Clark muttered in defense.

"I DO NOT ACCEPT EXCUSES! I'M JUST GOING TO HAVE TO FIND MYSELF A NEW GIANT, THAT'S ALL," Nigma sneered to the larger man.

"Don't say that, Nigma. Please?"

"DID I MAKE IT CLEAR THAT YOUR JOB IS AT STAKE?"

Clark began to climb just a bit faster.

The four unlikely travellers clambered over the edge of the cliff. Nigma slipped from the harness almost instantly and scrambled over to the rock that held the rope. He pulled a wicked looking dagger from the sheath at his belt and sawed away at the rope.

With a horrible rustling, the final cords on the rope snapped and the entire thing slid rapidly off the cliff. Selina felt a small moment of despair, the only other person who had any possible chance of knowing where she was was almost certainly dead.

The three men poked their heads over the edge of the cliff, hoping to catch sight of a broken body on the rocks below.

They were not entirely disappointed.

"He's got very good arms," Clark mused.

"HE DIDN'T FALL? INCONCEIVABLE!"

"You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means." A small rustling noise from lower on the cliff caught the swordsman's attention. "My God! He's climbing!"

Nigma stood, his eyes, flickd to and fro for a moment as he plotted. "Whoever he is, he's obviously seen us with the princess and must therefore die." He pointed to Clark, "You, carry her. We'll head straight for the outskirts of Metropolis." Nigma spun to face the swordsman, "Catch up when he's dead. If he falls, fine. If not, the sword."

"I'm going to do him left-handed."

"YOU KNOW WHAT A HURRY WE'RE IN!"

"It's the only way I can be satisfied. If I use my right it's over too quickly."

"Oh, have it your way," Nigma muttered in disgust as he began to trot away.

Clark patted the swordsman on the shoulder after heaving selina over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes. "You be careful. People in masks cannot be trusted."

"I'M WAITING!"

Note: I've finally run into the problem issue. I can't dodge the setting anymore. Is this a Massive pair of pseudo-modern medieval megacities, or is it princess bride type countryside? I've been able ot avoid it until now. ideas?
