Day Nine

Day Eight -- Nightfall:

Ah, the luxury of sheets and lights!

Yep, Paul Peter and I are back at the Blissful Unrest for the night.  He's off drinking, so I have the place to myself until the bar closes.  I'll be sound asleep long before that, I'm sure.

The more I see of Sheriff Mickey, the better I like him.  I said I'd write an entire entry on him quite a few days ago, but have not taken the time.  He is a decent man, honorable, concerned, and chivalrous.  He lent me his personal cell phone when he heard about my little jaunt into Man Eater Arroyo.  Then he let Alberto run the siren when he found him hiding in the library stacks.  He pulled me over right before the turnoff for the res and returned him to me.  As I heard when I was talking to Alice, Alberto said at the library when he popped out, Es un verano vivace, a lively summer.  He'll turn into a poly-lingual lickety-split. Verano is summer in Spanish, vivace is lively in Italian.  He'll also pop out with words in Náhuatl and English.  Nobody can figure out where he picked up the Italian musical term, correctly pronounced.

I just yawned again, third time in as many minutes.  It's not that Mickey bores me; I'm just exhausted.  I'll tell you more in the morning.

Day Nine -- Morning:

Up @ 5 am, but no walk in the beautiful desert at sunrise for me today.  Normally, Paul Peter told me he spends Friday night in YOWH, but last week, he moved it to be in town when the new teacher came (not suspecting it would be me, if I can believe him) and what with all the painting, etc., it got moved to Saturday night this week, too.  I have to admit to feeling disappointment - walking to the sheriff’s office for yet another confrontation with Tony just to wash up and use the facilities is NOT a fair trade-off.  In all honesty, however, I do have to admit I actually sleep better in a bed than on the chaise lounge, even with the mosquito net firmly in place.  I feel like I’m rambling hopelessly -- I’d best close this up and set out before I suffer an accident en route.
