I've almost finished reading Brave New World. It's been on my huge must-read list for too long, and seemed like a good follow-up to Animal Farm; I had forgotten how much ass Animal Farm kicks, and I guess reading about another dystopian future is my way of extending the pleasure. Using an attempted mugging scene to push your protagonists together is cheap and insulting to the reader.  Using an implied attempted rape scene to push your protagonists together is cheap, disgusting, and extraordinarily offensive to everyone on the planet.

God, this book is boring.

I should be able to breeze through this very quickly--it's not a complicated read, and I have the time on my hands--but it just doesn't hold my attention at all.  I'm about sixty pages in, right at the point that Bella is almost hit by a car.  Thank God something is happening; I'm not a big action fan, but I'll take ( Read more... )
