More accurately, as of December 2, if I attempt to use the city of Somerville recycling program at my residence, I will be fined. The city of Somerville is switching to a single-stream recycling program, using new mandatory bins. Buildings of 7 or more are being charged, and my building is refusing to pay. Last night, I upgraded my Ubuntu to Oneric Ocelot. Doing this switched me back to Ubuntu Unity and removed Gnome. I tried Unity before and could have gotten used to it if not for one thing -- a lack of a list of window titles. Unity will display a dot for each window of that application you have. The impression I am getting from a lot of people is that the government is corrupt and does not want to improve things. It's hard to predict things right now, given there are some uncertain factors that will fall out in the near future. However, my take on the jobs reports are that we are in a very slow recovery that will take a decade, rather than in a double dip recession. So, this month's jobs report has gotten a lot of attention for being terrible. The number being quoted is that only 18,000 jobs were added in the past month. If that were the only statistic we had to go off of, then that would indeed be terrible ( Read more... )
