I feel a little anxious about reccing this story, in that a lot of what happens towards the end is rather unnecessary, and, in my opinion, detracts from much of what came before. As thassalia commented last week, it's getting harder and harder to find early stories to recommend. There are stories that I fondly remember, yet when I go back a re-read, now years later, they aren't as well written as I remember.

It's sometimes difficult to look back at early stories with an unbiased eye. We know how the characters have changed and evolved. We look at indicators and attributes as cliches, and sometimes, okay, often, they are. Finding an early story to recc becomes increasingly difficult as the current writers get better and better. I have two favorite stories to recommend today. The first is by Shaye, written three years ago in mid-2000, when I believe she was only 20 years old. I've been trying for a while to fine a good Zhaan story. This is a lot more difficult that it looks. People forget that Zhaan isn't all quiet and serene, that she is for lack of a better word 'human', in that she too has both the dark and the light in her.
