Insulting?
Recently I've been noticing people make remarks about homosexuals that seem rather insulting. I am not talking about religious beliefs about marriage. I am not talking about religion at all, in fact. These remarks come from people who feel themselves to be open-minded and progressive.
"I loooove gay people!"
"Gay people are so cute."

A supremely silly advertisement
In a recent issue of Time magazine, I saw an advertisement by the Unitarian Universalist church. In large letters it said, "My God is better than Your God." It went on to say, "Is this any way to talk about religion?" and described the UUs as a community "where no one's idea of God is better than another's ( Read more... ) -
How Ideas poison everything
Here's a small point I have been thinking about lately.
Sometimes the "new" atheists (C. Hitchens, Dawkins et al) are criticized because they fail to distinguish between violent fanatics and mainstream religious people. Their responses often go along the lines of: "moderates make the world safe for fundamentalists".

Putin on common sense

Huckabee silliness and silly hate
There was a segment on NPR today that was about an Iowa campaign advertisement by a candidate named Mike Huckabee. Huckabee is a Republican candidate; my impression of him is a friendly, simple man who would make a good friend but not a great executive.
