I embrace my intolerance.
I have started reading Snow Flower and the Secret Fan for book group, and I have no tolerance at all for the culture of early 19th century rural China. I think footbinding is disgusting and evil. Also, all these characters are mean to each other. This was no way to live.

canvassing is fun!
Today for the first time in weeks I felt like I had time, so I volunteered for canvassing. Though when I signed up on the Obama website there appeared to be only 3 other people on this shift, when I showed up at the house it was swarming with people--there might have been 50 people there, entering data and making calls and training volunteers, ( Read more... ) -

I am not cut out to be a business traveler.
This is how strung out I am: two hours ago, while standing in the airport check-in line, I realized that I did not absolutely have to fly to Sacramento tonight, even though I had friends to see and friends' new houses to check out and a cabin to stay in at Lake Tahoe for skiing. It looks like the day I am going back to my own house will be adjusted to assure my parents can finish watching S1 Slings and Arrows before I leave with it. Since my parents watch almost nothing in the way of either TV or movies, I count this as a notable success. -

I mailed off eight intership applications today (ten more are due later, and the days right before Nov. 15 will be unpleasant, but because there's a lot of overlap among applications it should be downhill from here). I went to the state fair today with a group from the English department, which was a crapshoot because I'm not in the English department and therefore don't know everyone, but it worked out well. Back among the living
I am finally recovering from The Virus From Hell. I started to feel lousy Friday and have spent most of the entire WEEK that has passed since then propped up on my couch (propped for better nasal drainage) with my eyes closed, drifting in and out of consciousness and, when conscious, drinking gallons of Gatorade.
