Through A Glass Darkly-Verse - Series Guide

Jan 30, 2020 22:32

Since this series is a bit complicated and reading chronologically is not the best way to understand what's going on, here's the recommended reading order, under the cut.

Through A Glass Darkly-verse
What could a Doctor and Jack in Pete’s World be like if their pasts were different? And what about when Rose finds them?

Through A Glass Darkly
It’s only when she’s finally given up looking for a way back that she finds him.

Ninth Doctor (Pete's World), Jack Harkness (Pete's World), Rose Tyler. Multi-chapter, rated PG13

Chronologically, takes place later than other stories in the series, but the prequels make more sense if you read this first.

Love is Kind
"She's the last in the universe, lad."

Sixth Doctor (Pete's World), Jack Harkness (Pete's World). Drabble, rated G

Chronologically, the earliest instalment in the Through a Glass Darkly-verse: after he helps the newly-regenerated Doctor to recover, sixteen-year-old Jack sees the TARDIS for the first time. It is recommended to read Through a Glass Darkly first, however.

Something to Believe In
Everyone deserves to have something to believe in

Sixth Doctor (Pete's World), Jack Harkness (Pete's World). Single-part, rated G

Chronologically, takes place a day or so after Love is Kind.

Seeing Face To Face
It's time. He has to go and see the lad

Ninth Doctor (Pete's World), Jack Harkness (Pete's World). Single-part, rated PG13.

Chronologically, takes place earlier, but foreshadows events in Through A Glass Darkly so may not make complete sense without having read the later story.

Faith and Hope
"This is your idea of a fun holiday? I get more R&R on a field mission."

Ninth Doctor (Pete's World), Jack Harkness (Pete's World). Single-part.

Chronologically, a direct sequel to Seeing Face To Face, but will also require familiarity with Through A Glass Darkly.

Quick to Anger
"You've got to tell them you won't do it!"

Ninth Doctor (Pete's World), Jack Harkness (Pete's World). Single-part.

Chronologically, takes place some time after Faith and Hope, and requires familiarity with Through A Glass Darkly.

The Beholder's Eye
The Doctor’s never been so embarrassed in all his life.

Ninth Doctor (Pete's World), Jack Harkness (Pete's World). Triple drabble, rated PG

Chronologically, takes place some time after Faith and Hope, but again may not make a lot of sense unless you're familiar with the altDoctor and altJack as characterised in Through A Glass Darkly.

That Which Is Perfect
"Just decided to drop in."

Ninth Doctor (Pete's World), Jack Harkness (Pete's World).

Chronologically, some time in between The Beholder's Eye and Predator.

Predator
"That fugly ape? You're wasted on him."

Ninth Doctor (Pete's World), Jack Harkness (Pete's World).

Chronologically, some time in between That Which Is Perfect and Endure All Things.

Sound the Gong

Ninth Doctor (Pete's World), Jack Harkness (Pete's World).

Need to see you. Come now, please.

Chronologically, about sixteen months before Burned.

Endure All Things
- coming at some point

Ninth Doctor (Pete's World), Jack Harkness (Pete's World).

Chronologically, some time in between That Which Is Perfect and Burned, and will fill in some more of Jack's history as told to Rose in TAGD.

Burned

Ninth Doctor (Pete's World), Jack Harkness (Pete's World)

His world's gone. He should have died too.

Chronologically, some time in between Endure All Things and Through A Glass Darkly, and will fill in some more of Jack's history as told to Rose in TAGD.

Understand All Mysteries

Ninth Doctor (Pete's World), Jack Harkness (Pete's World).
"You don't need a scar on your face, Jack lad; you've got enough on your heart."

Set two weeks following Burned

Love Never Fails

Ninth Doctor (Pete's World), Jack Harkness (Pete's World).
The Doctor hasn't seen Jack in days

Set a month after Understand All Mysteries

Childish Things
"I love this. Reminds me of when I was a kid."
Ninth Doctor (Pete's World), Jack Harkness (Pete's World), Rose Tyler.  Single-part, rated G.

Chronologically, takes place around three months after Through A Glass Darkly and requires familiarity with the TAGD-verse.

Then Shall I Know
Jack can't avoid fifty-first century Earth for ever. He has to go back, and soon.

Ninth Doctor (Pete's World), Jack Harkness (Pete's World), Rose Tyler. Multi-chapter, rated R.

Chronologically, takes place around six months after Through A Glass Darkly and requires familiarity with the TAGD-verse.

Phthonos
"Not jealous of yourself, Doctor?"

Ninth Doctor (Pete's World), Jack Harkness (Pete's World). Drabble, rated G.

Chronologically, takes place straight after Then Shall I Know and requires familiarity with the TAGD-verse.

Love Suffers Long
"He’s probably in the Zero Room. And... well, best just to leave him there."

Ninth Doctor (Pete's World), Jack Harkness (Pete's World), Rose Tyler.  Single-part, rated PG.

Chronologically, takes place around seven months after Through A Glass Darkly and requires familiarity with the TAGD-verse.

TAGD-Verse Stories by Other Authors

sahiya and yamx (both of whose writing I adore) have written stories set in this 'verse, as gifts for me. I love these stories so much that I'm officially adopting them as part of the TAGD-verse, and recommend that you read them, if you haven't already.

In chronological order:

Burning by yamx
The reason beyond the reason.

Ninth Doctor (Pete's World), Jack Harkness (Pete's World). Drabble, rated All Ages

Chronologically, alongside and a direct companion to Burned

Jack 'n' the Pox by sahiya
As good as fifty-first century immune systems might be, there are some things they just aren't prepared for.

Jack Harkness (Pete's World), Ninth Doctor (Pete's World), Rose Tyler. Single part, rated PG13

Set some time after Through A Glass Darkly and requires familiarity with the TAGD-verse.

This post will be added to as the series develops.

(And, yes, there were comments to this post, but  I accidentally managed to delete the original post while editing  *sigh*)
