Does anyone know what the hell this icon is about? (I can't Google for it, because it's an image. I can see it now, Googling for 'windows exclamation point' ... "Showing results 1-10 of about fifty trillion.")

Just curious, do you have SP 1 and/or SP 2?

It looks familiar, kinda like the windows security alert notification icon.

Good thinking ... but I'm using SP1 and all Windows Update features are deactivated.

SP2, of course, is worse than AIDS, and my system is locked down tighter than a frog's ass. Which makes this so confounding.

can you right click it or hover the mouse? does it say anything if you do either of those, but i know i have gotten it for network issues and security issues, and what do you mean windows update features deactivated?

No clicky. Any attempt makes it go away, and mouseover does nothing.

You can disable automatic Windows updates through the Automatic Updates tab of the System Properties dialog. SP2 pretty much destroyed these options, which is why its so evil, and why I don't use it.

I've seen that icon before but it was in relation to my WiFi network i believe. But you don't use WiFi, do you? I just seem to remember that popping up when we first set up a wireless router. But it actually gave me an error message when i moused over it. (I don't remember the exact message but it was basically telling me my IP address wasn't correct---or something like that). We were having problems being able to access the internet when the computer that was actually hooked up to the DSL router was on. ~shrug~

~big grin~ Phrases like this are why I like you so much.

Thankfully I figured out how to deactivate my windows update system too. Thing pissed me right the fuck off when it was trying to just download shit without even letting me see what it was downloading.

I saw that yesterday on my work puter right after the power flickered during a storm. It jacked up email briefly, and so that icon was on top of the email icon on the toolbar.
