The world

What is the wizarding world like? Are there any enemies?

♣ Currently, the wizarding world is at peace and prospering. However, dark forces may appear in the future - keep an eye out! More information can be found here.

How much of a part does the ministry play here?

♣ While the headmaster is fiercely protective of his school, the ministry ultimately does hold more power over him and the staff here. The community is working on transitioning to involve the ministry more.

What's the trace? What do we do about that?

♣ The trace is a charm placed upon wizards when they are under twenty years of age. If a student is younger, they are not allowed to use magic outside of the school or yonsmeade. The trace cannot be broken any other way, and attempting to do so will result in notification from the ministry of magic.

When a student is caught using magic outside of the two permitted areas, an official and letter from the ministry is immediately sent to them. The repercussions range from something light such as temporarily suspension, or to something as heavy as expulsion. Matters involving the ministry are outside of the Headmaster's range of power, and while he will most likely try to assist any student of his - his success in doing so is not definite.

Exceptions are when a student lives with wizards, or is in a heavily wizarding populated area. Otherwise, the detection runs worldwide. More information can be found here.

What's the situation on unforgivable curses?

♣ If your plot involves the usage of an unforgiveable curse, it is mandatory for you to ask me (as a mod) for approval first. The reason why is because the punishment for these curses is a mandatory lifetime sentence in azkaban, and I want to regulate this as much as I can since the penalty is so high.

Some of the factors I take into mind are:
♠ Execution.
♠ Importance to the scene.
♠ Important to Character development.
♠ How public.
♠ Muses involved.
♠ The situation.

Even if your scene is not going to be posted in the community, you still do need approval from me first. This works by either sending an IM, or by PMing the Mod account. I will discuss with you about the situation, and try to help you think of possible solutions if it needs to be changed.

If you did not ask for permission and did the scene anyways, then penalties will be given OOCly once I find out. Most likely, each mun will be given a warning and I will either ask you two to delete the event from your muse's memories or ask for the plot to be edited.

The school

When is the school year?

♣  The start and end dates for the school year at Yonsei coincides with the Korean school year. It begins in early March and ends in early February. Korean schools have a summer break, typically around mid-July to mid-August and then a winter break for the remainder of February between the school years. However, having the comm go on vacation is difficult and so this has been adjusted, making Yonsei an All-Year-Round school. Students are given a week of vacation during the Christmas season and are free to scene outside of the school at this time. More breaks my be added in the future.

How do houses gain and lose points?

♣ For each week there is a House Points update posted, these can be found at the points tag in the main community. Individuals can lose points from their houses for misconduct and the points can be taken away by the Headmaster, Professors, and other staff, as well as be awarded by them. Prefects are allowed to take away points from members of their own house (the maximum is 30, if more is felt to be needed then they should discuss the matter with a professor). They are not allowed to take any points from any student in any other house. Points taken away must be PMed to the mod account, before the weekly point post or it can be commented there if necessary (the post would then be edited). There are still many slots open, more information on how to apply can be found here. Currently, they cannot give points to anyone.

Each week a random amount (determined by the roll of dice) of points is given to each house and posted under the tag mentioned above.

Are muses allowed to visit Yonsmeade whenever they like or are there age restrictions?

♣ A log for Yonsmeade will be posted bimonthly, and that is when muses are allowed to visit Yonsmeade. Students are only allowed to visit after submitting a signed permission form during their third year of school.

But you haven't posted it to the log community on time! What should we do?

♣ The best thing to do would be to PM the mod account! I am aware that I often forget, and reminders would be gladly welcomed. If it has not been posted, scenes where the muses did go to yonsmeade during that weekend when it was supposed to be put up are allowed.

How is technology used here? Doesn't the magic interfere with the electricity needed?

♣ "While the Harry Potter series takes place in the 90s, Yonsei is set in modern society (2012). As such, there are certain things available for use by students, teachers, etc that weren't in the series (cell phones, laptops, television, etc.), hence the use of Live Journal, etc. Such devices are able to function in the school through the use of magic to offset the dysfunction that sometimes occurred when such products began to find their way into the wizarding world." ( Found here.)

How can a student serve a detention if the teacher is unavailable?

♣ Detentions do not need to be played out. They can be assumed, but you must note the times that they are supposedly unavailable. If a specific teacher gives them detention, and that teacher is being played in game, then it can be scened.

Can we NPC teachers that aren't played?

♣ It is allowed, but if the teacher has a major role and voice in the log - the muns must PM the mod account with what they're planning.

Who are the prefects?

♣ The current prefects and head of houses can be found here.

When will they be updated?

♣ The prefect standings are updated whenever a new student applies to the postion. Applications are linked on the above post.

Where can I pick out wands and brooms?

♣ There are many sites for this. We recommend finding a broom here and there is basic information on wands here. If you would like more in depth descriptions on types or wand wood and cores, we recommend this site.

Housing

Are boys allowed in girl's rooms and vice versa?

♣ Boys are allowed in girl's rooms, and vice versa, but only if they are 4th year and above. If they aren't, then the stairs will turn into a slide once someone under age of the opposite sex steps onto them.

Are the bedrooms single rooms or do they have roommates?

♣ The bedrooms are single rooms and hold a bed, desk, closet, and dresser. A student can request to room with someone in their own house. Each room comes decorated in standard house colors although some students choose to alter their decor and furniture.

Other than the prefects bathroom, what is the bathroom situation in the individual houses?

♣ There are several boys and girls bathrooms located around the school. Inside the individual houses, there are also boy's bathrooms and girl's bathrooms located on each floor. Each bathroom has a set of individual shower stalls. The prefect bathroom is the only one with a large bathtub.

What's the curfew?

♣ There is a school wide curfew, normally set at 9PM for 1-4th year students, and 10PM for 5th-7th year students. The curfew can also be changed by the Headmaster when deemed necessary and will remain until the Headmaster lifts it. However there is an exception for Astronomy students, but only during the time slot for their class.

What is the housing situation for staff members?

♣Staff members are given their own rooms near their classroom. They have an office connected to the classroom and their housing next to that. All staff members are giving a small living space, including a living room, bedroom and private bathroom. As for the Head of House, instead of having their room near their classroom, it is instead located next to the common room of the proper house.

Age Restrictions

The of age number is 17+ in the series, why is it 20+ here?

♣ Due to how first years are three years older than how they are in the series, the age has been adjusted.

What is the drinking age and policy on students drinking?

♣ The drinking age in Korea is currently 20 years old. A muse must be of age to be allowed to drink.

However, third years and up are still allowed to drink butterbeer at Yonsmeade since it is very weak. For stronger alcoholic drinks, any students caught will have to face the consequences after personally talking with the headmaster. During events, some alcoholic drinks may be available for those who are of age (such as mulled mead, wine) but firewhiskey and anything along those lines (brandy, scotch, etc) are limited to the teachers in certain situations.

Quidditch

Is Quidditch season all year round and are there ever any scheduled games?

♣ Quidditch season usually starts in August and runs to October.

What are the quidditch practice times?

♣ Practices are in the evenings, 5:30 - 7:00pm.

Schedules for what houses are allowed are:

Monday/Wednesday: Gryffindor & Slytherin
Tuesday/Thursday: Hufflepuff & Ravenclaw
Fridays: Friendly games between houses are allowed during this day.

General

How are activity checks conducted?
♣There is an activity check posted at the end of every month and everyone is required to comment on the thread with a link to a journal post or a log. Please see one of the posts under the activity check tag in the main community for more information.

What Blast Groups are available?
♣There are several Blast Groups for you to join after being accepted. There are two Community wide Blasts, one for chatting and one for announcements. There are also separate House Blasts. House Blasts are treated as the Common Room and muses are welcome to start scenes whenever they like. More information on each blast can be found here.

I have more questions, what should I do?

♣ Comment here (it will be screened) or send a PM to yonsei_mod or ysa_storyteller.
